"Tailor Made" Ferrari California T showcased at Festival of Speed

Article by Christian A., on June 24, 2015

Ferrari recently showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed its new “Tailor Made” California T which was inspired by the colors and passion of horse racing and polo. The California T more than captures the essence of personalization with a three-layer bianco Italia exterior and a Blu Hellen colored double-asymmetric stripe which is mirrored with a Blu Sterling interior having Bianco elements and highlights.

It is finished with 20-inch forged wheels painted with Argento Nurburgring and Blu Hellen. The California T also highlights the high-tech fabric material known as “Mycro Prestige” which was specially and exclusively made for Ferrari. Owing to a unique mix of fibers that are only 0.7 mm thick, it weighs around a third of the traditional leather and is a highly resistant material that can offer incomparable level of grip.

In addition it is water resistant and flameproof while being breathable and porous. The new model was displayed exclusively in the Ferrari VIP hospitality enclosure and available only for the brand’s clients. A Tailor Made display of materials was put up beside it in order to give clients inspiration on how to personalize their Ferrari. The Tailor Made is an exclusive program developed for Ferrari clients by Maranello and it is aimed at those who want a car that shows their distinct tastes and personalities.

The program is a continuation of the long Maranello tradition that started during the 1950s to 1960s when clients preferred to personalize their cars and had the freedom to choose almost everything from the materials to the color and even to the finish. The end result was of course cars that were tailor made to fit the desires of the different individual owners. This practice was revived through this program which gives Ferrari clients the ability to choose the details of their car from the cabin trim to the exterior color.

This is made possible by giving different choices as it relates to accessories, colors, finishes, materials, and treatments. Thus it is the personal preferences that lie at the heart of Ferrari’s Tailor Made Program. Owners who become part of the program are assigned their very own personal designer who then assists and guides them in the selection process with the goal of coming out with a car that not only reflects the taste of the owner but also incorporates what the brand is all about.

Once the owner has decided on the details, the owner is able to track the different processes involved until the time it is delivered or pick up the car in person at Maranello. The cornerstones of the program are attention to detail, creativity; use of original materials; excellent craftsmanship; and research. The program has three collections that have been directly inspired by Ferrari’s DNA and these are: Scuderia, Classica and Inedita.

The Scuderia is based on the long sporting history of Ferrari and offers a choice of a number of racing-derived materials, liveries, and finishes. The Classica offers a modern take on the features and styles of the iconic GT’s of Maranello. The Inedita is for those who prefer innovation and experimentation on the colors, materials, and styles. Majority of the decision making is given to the owners allowing them to choose materials from the traditional to the luxurious like cashmere, denim, or even carbon fiber.

This level of personalization has never been seen before in the auto sector. This is in fact the first instance where many of the materials to be used are homologated and adopted for cars. Owners who are invited to be part of the program will find themselves in a place that feels more like a haute couture studio than car showroom with its huge number of material, color, and treatment samples available for browsing. There is also a material scanner that allows the owners to get a preview of what their customization looks like.

Ferrari Tailor Made

Ferrari Tailor-Made is the exclusive personalisation programme from Maranello developed specifically for clients wishing to create a truly bespoke car that will be a clear expression of their own unique personalities and tastes.

The Tailor-Made programme continues a longstanding Maranello tradition which began in the 1950s and 60s, a time when clients personalised their cars as a matter of course and enjoyed huge freedom when it came to materials, colours and finish. The result was genuinely unique cars tailored to suit the desires of each individual owner.

That prestigious past has now been revived through a programme that permits owners to specify every last detail of their Ferrari, from the exterior livery colour to the cabin trim, via a completely unprecedented choice of finishes, accessories, materials, treatments and colours.

The client’s personal wishes and aspirations lie at the very heart of the Tailor-Made Programme. Owners are assisted and guided through the selection process by their own Personal Designer who is charged with guaranteeing that the resulting cars are both unique and consistent with the Ferrari brand and its tradition. Once the car’s details have been defined, the client can then track all of the various processes involved in its creation, right up until they take delivery. Naturally, they are very welcome to come to Maranello to pick up their car in person if they so wish.

Creativity, research, original materials, superb craftsmanship and attention to detail are the cornerstones of the Tailor-Made programme which offers three collections inspired directly by Ferrari’s DNA: Scuderia, Classica and Inedita.

Scuderia takes its inspiration from Ferrari’s sporting history, offering a choice of racing-derived materials, finishes and liveries. The Classica collection, on the other hand, provides a modern twist on the styling cues and features of Maranello’s iconic GTs. Lastly, Inedita lives up to its name by introducing an element of experimentation and innovation in terms of styling, colours and materials.

Clients are given enormous freedom in their decision making, being able to select everything from traditional and luxury materials, of the likes of cashmere, to trendy ones like denim, and high-tech, innovative carbon-fibre, available to them. This allows clients to achieve a level of exclusivity that’s absolutely unprecedented in the automotive sector. In fact, this is the first time many of the materials offered have been adopted and homologated for use in cars.

Clients are invited to Maranello as part of the Tailor-Made programme. There they will find a dedicated area that looks and feels very much like a haute couture studio with a huge array of samples of materials, treatments and colours to browse. There is also a material scanner that will provide owners with a preview of the final result.
