TomTom Speed Camera app for iPhone helps users observe speed limits

Article by Christian A., on May 5, 2012

TomTom has rolled out the TomTom Speed Camera app for iPhone, which allows drivers to access fixed and mobile speed camera alerts. The app is run by the biggest driving community in Europe with its 1.6 million drivers in 15 nations. It boosts safety by communicating information to users regarding speed limits during their trip.

Accordingly, the users can prevent costly speeding fines as well as points on their driving license in some countries. The TomTom Speed Camera app provides users with the right to utilize the company's premium Speed Camera service in a standalone app. This app has a new easy-to-use dedicated user interface.

It provides drivers with information on their speed, the type of camera ahead, the remaining distance to reach it and the speed limit. A color-coded warning system effectively and immediately alerts users if they have to slow down. TomTom's Vice President Mobile Gerry Hinds explained that the Speed Camera service can be "of real benefit," as it assists individuals to remain focused since they know where the next camera will be.

He emphasized that "confident driving is safer driving" and this is the reason why they are "so pleased" to offer the accessible service to "a much larger segment of the driving community." The app has real-time client reports from drivers who share newly removed or added cameras with each other. It provides drivers 95% coverage of fixed camera locations as well as real-time information on mobile speed cameras. Moreover, the app provides an average speed check support.  This assists drivers to remain below the limit within average speed check zones.
