Toyota launches top-of-the-range GT86 Blanco

Article by Christian A., on June 30, 2015

Toyota has unveiled the GT86 Blanco -- a new special edition model from its revised GT86 range. It provides nearly all of the qualities that have made this coupe a critical hit. Its performance and handling are outstanding. Its one-off styling also adds to its appeal. The new Blanco has a GT White Pearl pearlescent paint finish and comes with red and grey contrasting sports decals.

There is a stripe decal that starts at the nose and goes up across the bonnet and roof. Along the sills, there is a GT86 twin-stripe to match it. The front lip and rear diffuser have a red and red edge. In addition, the door mirrors get grey flashes. The Blanco is equipped with dedicated 18-inch alloys that feature a slim 10-spoke design, with an Anthracite finish and with the GT86 name embossed on it.

Full-leather upholstery is used for the sports seats. The front seats benefit from heaters. Owners know exactly what place their cars have in the limited special edition production run as there’s a numbered plaque on the centre console of every car. Buyers may request for their cars to be installed with a nine-speaker JBL sound system and the Toyota Touch and Go touchscreen-controlled multimedia and navigation package.

Its appearance is a bit different but this car still offers the same superior balance and handling that has made the 2+2 coupe very highly acclaimed. You’d be surprised at how affordable this car is, considering that it offers classic sports car performance with its combination of low centre of gravity and use of a compact, naturally aspirated, front-mounted 2.0-litre boxer engine with rear-wheel drive.

This new model is the latest to enter the newly modified range that includes the GT86 Primo, GT86 and GT86 Aero. It starts selling on July 1 with a price of £28,500. Deliveries will start on August 1.

The 2012 Geneva Motor Show will serve as the official debut in Europe of the GT 86, the highly awaited 2+2 compact sports car from Toyota. The best description of the GT 86 would be that it is focused mainly on the driver. It is therefore able to deliver that fundamental and pure happiness one expects from driving. This is due to the immediate and precise response despite the smallest input on the steering or throttle.

Safe to say, this model was designed for those who believe that driving is not simply a need but more of a passion. For the GT 86, the brand focused on this model having that purity when it comes to the experience that a classic sports car can deliver.

Designed by a team of engineers with the highest of passion, the model was perfect through competition and later fine-tuned in order to make even the most discerning of enthusiasts satisfied. Without question, it carries the spirit that is present in many of the past sports cars of Toyota and thus rewards drivers with a genuine driving involvement.

Utilizing a whole new platform, the GT 86 has its aerodynamic and low bodyshell covering all of the engineering hard points. Rather than depend on a powertrain that has a large and heavy displacement for its performance, this new model goes back to its sporting roots. This is why it is the first in the world to have a rear-wheel drive partnered with the horizontally-opposed, free-revving, front-mounted, and compact “boxer” petrol engine. This distinct powertrain results in the GT 86 having the best power-to-weight ratio there is.

No question as this is all due to the combination of a low center of gravity, low inertia, lightweight, and a compact four-seat design. All of these qualities mean that is able to have a performance that is accessible and lively. Dynamic abilities meanwhile can easily be exploited while being highly engaging. These are all possible while electronic intrusion is minimized and driving pleasure is maximized.
