Video: ‘The New Sound of Bentley’ teases firm’s next 4.0-liter V8

A new video dubbed “The New Sound of Bentley” has recently been unveiled by Bentley Motors. It’s quite obvious that it is a teaser for the new V8 that was built in collaboration with Audi.

This engine is slated to arrive early next year, indicating that the launch is likely to be at the Detroit Motor Show this January. Audi and Bentley co-developed this V8 engine that displaces 4.0-liters and will be fitted on the facelifted Continental GT.

But it will be made use of by several Audis that have been modified to offer faster speeds. Similar to other vehicles built by the VW Group, this model is focused on boosting efficiency and reducing weight.

This is a factor that the Continental GT isn’t doing so well in. This unit has 40% lower CO2 emissions level when compared to the W12 engine fitted on the Continental GT. When this engine is used in the Bentley vehicle, the engine could bring its power to the road through a 40:60 rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.

The new and stylish Bentley Continental GT V8 S is available as a coupe and as a convertible. Both models bring additional excitement to Bentley's Continental range with their sharper steering, their signature 'S' styling cues, their uprated V8 engine's distinctive soundtrack, and their retuned sports suspension.

The Bentley Continental GT V8 S coupe and convertible models expand the Continental line and give owners an even more exciting and engaging driving experience, thanks to their 4L twin turbo V8 powertrain.

Both Continental models will be launched at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber, Bentley Motor chairman and chief executive officer, says that the Continental is a definitive grand tourer. The new cars, according to him, boast an effortless performance, an all-wheel drive capacity, a generous space, and handcrafted luxury that will take you on a stylish, refined, and comfortable journey on the road.

Schreiber adds that the new GT V8 S is also perfect for those who are looking for more excitement and more drama as it has a kind of sporting edge that adds dimension to Bentley's Continental series.

The new car builds on the success of its Continental GT V8 predecessors. Yet, its high-efficiency 4L twin turbo V8 engine is a more powerful version, developing 521bhp (528PS/389KW) at 6,000 rpm and a 680 Nm (502 lb.ft) torque at 1,700 rpm.

The new car features automatic transmission, which is close-ratio ZF 8-speed, providing a smooth power delivery, an exhilarating performance, and effortless acceleration. You can switch to 'S' mode through its gear selector, and you will get a sharpened throttle response.

GT V8 S coupe accelerates from zero to 60mph in just 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 192mph. Meanwhile, the GT V8 S convertible gives you an equally impressive performance, being able to accelerate from zero to 60mph in 4.5 seconds and go on a top speed of 191mph.

The car's increased performance can be achieved without compromising the combined cycle fuel economy of the engine, its 500-mile coverage between fill-ups, and its carbon dioxide emissions. More specifically, the new GT V8 S has a class-leading fuel economy of 26.8 mpg for the coupe model and 25.9 mpg for the convertible model, while CO2 emissions is 246 g/km for the coupe and 254 g/km for the convertible.
