For many, a dream car shouldn’t be just spacious and luxurious, but also fast and furious. The BMW M3 might be just this kind of dream car, but an M version of the 4-Series Gran Coupe would still be a better choice. But to no avail, an M4 Gran Coupe isn't happening yet, even after the 4 Series just recently received a Life Cycle Impulse (mid-cycle update).
BMW Abu Dhabi – which describes itself as an exclusive importer for BMW, MINI and BMW ALPINA in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, United Arab Emirates – has come up with a modified version of a 4-Series Gran Coupe that could be the closest thing we could get to an M4 Gran Coupe. BMW Abu Dhabi has been known for its knack in creating leveled-up versions of a typical BMW vehicle, and this latest custom-build isn't an exception.
BMW Abu Dhabi started off with a regular BMW 440i Gran Coupe. Wrapped in elegant yet sporty Snapper Rocks Blue paint finish, this 440i Gran Coupe is hugged by athletic body kit from M Performance – from its bottom to the top. Its black kidney grilles features M-colored vertical stripes on the front while its rear end features M Performance trunk lid spoiler, as complemented by an Akrapovic exhaust system with an Akrapovic Sport downpipe. Furthermore, this custom-built BMW 440i Gran Coupe rides on 20-inch M Performance wheels. Its driver is treated to an M Performance steering wheel; except for this, the interior of this new 440i Gran Coupe remains the same when it was delivered from the factory.
There is no word whether BMW Abu Dhabi tweaked the powertrain of this new BMW 440i Gran Coupe. The absence of such tweak means that this model is still powered by a dynamic the 3.0-liter engine that could deliver up to 320 hp (238 kW) of output and up to 330 lb.-ft. (447 Nm) of torque. This amount of power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. This also means that the BMW 440i Gran Coupe still consumes between 5.5 liters and 7.9 liters of petrol per 100 km, while having the ability to travel between 35.8 miles and 51.4 miles per gallon of fuel.
Nonetheless, this custom-built BMW 440i Gran Coupe isn't near as powerful as the latest iteration of the BMW M3. The M3’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine could deliver 444 hp (331 kW) of max output and 406 lb.-ft. (550 Nm) of peak torque. But of course, while a non-tuned 440i Gran Coupe already boasts of much power, a more dynamic version with higher levels of output and torque is a welcome proposition.
