It appears that wrapping cars is a trend that is unlikely to stop anytime soon. More companies are trying out new and unique ways to implement designs. One model to have benefitted from all of this is the BMW i8.
Just in the middle of this year for example, the Japanese division of BMW came out with its own version in a color no one expected. When it was released, the i8 came with the choice of six color schemes. However the color red was not included. This has been changed with the limited edition being offered known as the “Celebration Edition”. It has the same qualities as that of the Protonic Red Limited Edition shown during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The limited edition version even has the light-alloy 470 W-spoke wheels and the Frozen Gray Metallic accents. However, only 20 units were made with each one having a badge on the interior to highlight its uniqueness and rarity.
It comes as no surprise then to learn that Austin Mahone has revealed his own custom-wrapped BMW i8. For those not familiar, this celebrity is in the same vein as Justin Bieber as both were discovered as signers online and have now managed to enter the world of mainstream music. Mahone however is also known for his interest in cars.
This recent version had the work done by Metro Wrapz, which managed to make the i8 look as if it has been in the garage for years with its rust effect. MetroWrapz managed to turn the i8 to a brown and orange work of art. Making it more attractive is the fact that the wrap is complemented with Vossen Wheels’ gold wheels.
This is not the first time that Mahone has had work done on an i8 by the folks at Metro Wrapz. For this particular work, the tuner put in a bespoke red wrap while continuing to retain the tri-color design that the i8 is recognized for. The difference is that instead of the usual silver or white and offset by black and blue, Metro Wrapz made use of gold elements particularly on the kidney grille surround in the front and the side skirts.
Gold elements are utilized as well on certain components of the rear fascia and the BMW badge surrounds. All of the remaining surfaces then have gloss black finish with the exception being the side skirts which come in matte black. Mahone also went further on this compared to other car owners. Instead of ending with the wrap, the i8 has had its suspension lowered and fitted with customized gold wheels. The end result is an i8 that is definitely unique.
