Dwayne Johnson, better known as "The Rock", is currently filming for his upcoming movie, Rampage. Alongside the star will be the Ford Bronco who will also star in the movie.
Rampage is based on the iconic video game that was first released in 1986. The plot focuses on giant monsters destroying cities leaving them as a pile of rubble. The movie premiere is scheduled to be in April 2018.
A movie of this genre definitely calls for a rugged vehicle that is suitable for some action-packed scenes, and this is where the Ford Bronco concept from 2005 enters frame. So naturally, it will be The Rock who will be driving the 4x4 two-door SUV, joined by his co-star Naomie Harris.
In fact, Johnson already gave us a sneak peek when he posted a photo of the duo, and the Ford Bronco on Instagram with a caption: “SHE BRINGS IT. Thank you to my amazing costar, the Oscar nominated @naomieharris for the energy, focus and discipline you bring to set daily. What a mix of beauty and talent, but don’t let the pretty face fool you, she can still take down any gigantic genetically modified monster that gets in her way. Grateful to share the screen with such a class act. #Rampage”, complementing his co-star.
As you could see in the photo, the silver SUV is illegally parked on a handicap spot, but the stars can probably get away with that, since the movie is based on the classic video game about a trio of city-destroying monsters.
Knowing that the Bronco will be featured in the movie only means that it will make its return, 12 years later. It’s quite impressive how a car from 2005 that first made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show, is being utilized in a 2017 movie. When the two-door SUV finally comes back, it probably won’t look exactly like the concept pictured on The Rock’s Instagram. Instead, it may adopt a similar styling to the European Everest.
Back in 2005, the Bronco concept was equipped with a 2.0 liter turbodiesel inline-four, working together with a six-speed manual transmission. But it is unlikely for that to be carried over to the production version. The new Bronco could use a turbocharged EcoBoost engine, producing around 300 horsepower (223 kilowatts).
With all the exposure the Bronco will get from the movie, the company hopes that this will build hype and create anticipation for the all-new model. Rampage the movie hits theaters on April 20, 2018, while the Ford Bronco will make its debut before 2020, probably at another Detroit Auto Show.
