A smart funeral option: That one last ride with an Eco-friendly Nissan Leaf Hearse

Article by Christian A., on February 2, 2017

British funeral home Leverton & Sons is out there to prove that eco-friendliness can be achieved even at your final journey. Together with Brahms Electric Vehicles, the UK-based funeral directors have converted a Nissan Leaf into an Eco-Hearse. Indeed, saving the earth will never go out of style and it will continue to live on even after you’ve drawn your last breath!

The eco-conscious funeral car has been replaced with a transparent panel so that friends and relatives of the dearly departed can take a good view of the casket. Brahms Electric Vehicles has freed the entire cabin space and extends it all the way to driver’s side to keep the coffin safe and secured. What’s more, the eco-hearse has been installed with a motor so that the floor deck can be adjusted up and down. This makes it more convenient to use during loading and unloading.

Interestingly, Brahms has developed a total of three Nissan Leaf funeral cars and has sold a couple of units already. In order for them to deliver a much cheaper price, the English company converts previously used Nissan Leaf examples instead of new ones.

Meanwhile, Leverton & Sons isn’t the only funeral service to have gone green nor is it the first time for a hearse to be made for eco-centric consumers. RemetzCar has modified a Tesla Model S last year and had stretched its roof and wheelbase by up to eighty centimeters more. This helps ensure there is enough space for a coffin of any shape and size. The first green hearse’s body is also made of glass on both sides with a jacked up roof to provide a better view from the outside.

Aside from the two (Nissan Leaf and Tesla Model S Hearses), there are other stylish ways to take a ride to that final resting place. Over the years, Biemme Special Cars has been modifying RR Phantoms while Maserati has its own Ghibli hearse courtesy of Ellena Autotrasformazioni. Though not as environment friendly as the EVs we’ve mentioned earlier, a Rolls Royce or a Maserati can make a great alternative to make that final trip extra special.

All things considered, Leverton & Sons’ Nissan Leaf Eco-Hearse isn’t just made for greener surroundings but is also for the safety of the driver and the deceased. Meaning to say, safety shouldn’t be a problem since the hearse comes with airbag sensors and horizontal crash beam to make that final journey safe and truly worth the while. Not only that. By integrating environment friendly practices into their products and services, the company has somehow raised more awareness that it’s never too late to care for the world where we once lived.
