One of these track-only cars is McLaren’s P1 GTR. McLaren decided it be best that the P1 GTR be a limited-edition vehicle and built only 45 examples of this monstrous machine. The road-legal P1 is a member of the Hypercar Holy Trinity alongside the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918. Now imagine the power of that street-legal car and the monstrosity that is the P1 GTR – the latter being the most chosen one for performance enthusiasts.
Now, in a way, it won’t be a waste if the P1 GTR was constantly found on various circuits in the world, but it would be a lost opportunity for an enthusiast not to be able to witness the power hidden in this vicious track beast. So, what better way to witness the splendor of the P1 GTR than to submit it to a conversion specialist. It’s a tough task, but it’s what their engineers are trained to do.
Over time, the number of converted P1 GTR’s has increased. Although there hasn’t been any confirmed ratio of track-only versus converted P1 GTR’s, it seems like more and more owners are sending their goodies out to conversion specialists. For whatever reason these conversions are for, we wouldn’t know, but what we’re pretty sure is that it will cost more than it originally did.
More street-legal versions have been popping up for sale in various used markets. One of them is an all-black street-legal McLaren P1 GTR. On first glance, the car could be a little intimidating because of its Batmobile-esque look but it is as awesome as it can be.
Up on sale on Automobile.fr, this classy P1 GTR is tagged with a price of $4.36 million (€3.99 million). We know, it’s ridiculously expensive but it’s fast and undisputedly the most good-looking P1 GTR you’ve seen in your entire life. Money is one problem, the other is how to get your hands on it when it is located in a different country and in a different continent – particularly, the Netherlands. Oh bummer.
Even if this P1 GTR was converted, the same powerplant carefully nestled inside the car powers the street-legal version. The same 3.8-liter biturbo V8 hybrid set-up lives under its bonnet producing a powerful 986 horsepower (725 kilowatts) at full tilt. It is 83-horsepower faster than the standard P1. Fitted with a massive rear wing, the P1 GTR is also capable of producing around 1,455 pounds (660 kilograms) of downforce at 150 mph (241 km/h). All this power is what makes this beast a fearsome opponent out on the streets or even inside the race track.
It looks like this particular P1 GTR was converted by British conversion specialist Levante Racing. We’re not even sure how many of these McLarens have been converted or will be converted but the high demand for road-legal versions of the P1 GTR is quickly rising thus the need to double time for those who aim to sell their cars for an extremely high price. If it doesn’t fit your budget, then there’s a cheaper alternative – a new all-electric version of the P1.
