2015 Chicago Auto Show: Chevrolet unveils Colorado GearOn Special Edition

Article by Christian A., on February 10, 2015

Chevrolet unveiled today the 2015 Colorado GearOn Special Edition and announced that it will bring its brand new pickup at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. According to the manufacturer, the new pickup truck promises to blend its capability with the versatility of the GearOn accessory system.

Starting at $31,250, the 2015 Colorado GearOn Special Edition will be offerd on LT models in extended or crew cab configurations, with the long or short cargo bed and available 4WD.

The special edition features the GearOn accessory system, that was designed for easy configuration with a multitude of mounting accessories for everything from bikes, kayaks, skis and paddle boards to a bed-mounted tent.

Chevrolet says that the Colorado GearOn Edition features the GearOn bars package, divider package and cargo tie-down rings. Additional content includes the EZ Lift and Lower tailgate, off-road assist steps, 18-inch aluminum wheels painted in gloss black, a body-coloured grille, front and rear black Chevy bowtie logos, front fog lamps, rear window defogger and remote start.

The Chevrolet Colorado boasts of a distinct North American design laden with a confident stance and a sporty character. For instance, the new Colorado features taller bedsides that are complemented by the cab’s aggressive, raked belt line. This gives the new Colorado a distinctive proportion that makes it more athletic while helping secure items in the bed.

Chevrolet will be offering the new 2015 Colorado in three configurations; an extended cab model with a six-foot bed; a crew cab with a six-foot bed; and a crew cab with a six-foot bed. This six-foot allows hauling of longer items when the tailgate is down.

Ken Parkinson, executive director of Chevrolet Design, remarked that the design of the new Colorado brings a youthful breath of fresh air to the midsize truck segment while reinterpreting progressively the carmaker’s true-truck styling. He described the Colorado as the younger and more eager brother of the Silverado laden with great zeal and a spirit of adventure.

Available in either 2WD or 4WD, the new Colorado is offered in WT, LT and Z71 trims. Inspired by the off-road, the Z71 is provided with a gunmetal grille surround (compared to chrome on other models) flanked by projector headlamps. It rides on distinct 17-inch aluminum wheels.

For better levels of aerodynamic performance and a quieter interior, the new Colorado comes with triple-sealed doors inlaid in the body sides. It also comes with an aluminum bonnet – the first in the segment – to help keep overall mass down while enhancing its front-to-rear weight balance. The new Colorado is the only offering in the segment to be equipped with active aero grille shutters that could close at certain highway speeds to improve aerodynamics.
