To celebrate 10 years of its high-performance F cars, Lexus plans to come out with a couple of special edition models. These will include a 2018 Lexus GS F sedan, together with an RC F Coupe, and both will be dressed to make them stand out when they’re on display at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show. Both models will be given the same gray suit with blue accents inside and out.
This may already sound familiar to you, as the automaker actually has already brought them to the Tokyo Motor Show late last year. But what we know at that time was that those models will be exclusive to the Japanese market only – apparently, that has changed.
And yes, we are right about that. Though it will just be a limited model in the US, with only 340 units, the good news is that it will be available, and it will likely be very difficult to get one. Only 240 anniversary versions of the RC F coupe will be built, and 100 units of the thinner GS F sedans will get the special treatment. Each Lexus dealer in the US will only carry one unit of the coupe.
So what makes the anniversary version so special? Well, when looking at it from the outside, it will be painted in a nice coat of Nebula Gray with a matte finish. They will be the first Lexus models that will be dressed in this shade of grey. The automaker also says that the manufacturer took special care of this, making sure that this can withstand whatever type of automatic car washes. Both the coupe and the sedan will sit on a set of 19 inch wheels with contrasting blue calipers that also match bits of the interior theme.
In the cabin, what you will first notice are the blue leather and carbon fiber trim accents that coat the usual gray or black passenger compartment. Many parts of the car, including the steering wheel, shift knob, door panels, and some parts of the dash are all dressed in a shade of blue.
That’s not all because even the seats have been covered in the same colour, but with white accents and contrast stitching. There’s also some blue trim on the rear seats, and of course, each car gets an engraved plaque mounted on the driver door panel, to indicate that it is the anniversary version.
Since this is a special edition model, we would expect it to get some mechanical or power upgrade too. However, the package is limited to visual upgrades only, which slightly disappointed us. It remains to have the same 5.0 liter V8 engine that carries out 467 horsepower (348 kilowatts) and it can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds - still pretty impressive we must say.
Both versions are scheduled to arrive in the US this summer, but we do not have details on the pricing just yet.
