For the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, Kia prepared the Trail’ster e-AWD Concept, a vehicle developed for the city-dweller-turned-outdoor-adventurer. According to the South Korean manufacturer, the Trail’ster e-AWD Concept will show a bold design as well as a fully retractable canvas roof.
The biggest surprise found on the concept is the smarty integrated rear electric all-wheel drive system, but not too many details are available unfortunately.
When it comes to design, the concept will show a rugged look and will feature an aluminum underbody protection as well as stylish wheels with red and black accents.
We don’t know anything about the engine found under the hood, but we expect to see an in-line 2.0-liter turbocharged powerplant used also by the Track’ster Concept, which produced 250 hp (186 kW). We will reveal you more about the new Trail’ster Concept next week, at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show!
Derived from the production Soul, the new Kia Trail'ster features an unmistakable overall shape and size. Just like the Track'ster and Soul'ster concepts that showed how the Soul could be drastically evolved for new territories of lifestyle and performance, the new Trail'ster could also be considered as an evolution of Kia's urban passenger vehicle from being a popular production car into a rugged vehicle equipped with pertinent styling and drivetrain components. All of these concepts only show that the Soul could be an ideal platform for new levels of creativity and experimentation.
The new Kia Trail'ster is wrapped in an exterior color – the Polar Pearl Snowdrift -- that takes inspiration from the earthy combo of springtime snow and mud. Interestingly, the Trail'ster was designed to confidently tackle these terrains as it tries to arrive to its new adventures.
As formulated, the Polar Pearl Snowdrift exterior paint is meant to be a modern neutral color, as contrasted by the warm Terra Bronze Metallic finish of the roof and lower cladding. The new Trail'ster rides on new wheels with anodized fire-red accents and polished billet aluminum sections, as inspired from high-tech, high-performance outdoor sporting gear.
Kia has provided the new Trail'ster concept with full-length, weatherproof rollback canvas roof that allows its occupants to enjoy an open-sky experience. Its fully retractable cover helps keep the Trail'ster lighter while lowering its center of gravity. Users could also bring along their mountain bikes or snowboards thanks to the fact that the new Trail'ster has integrated roof rack fittings with aluminum cross rails.
