Article by Christian A., on January 26, 2009

It was revealed today by Cadillac its subsequent generation 2010 SRX Crossover, highlighting a totally brand new design and more-economical, modern powerplant options. The latest SRX is a mid-size luxury crossover showcasing at the North American International Auto Show in the following week.

Designed for economical performance, the 2010 SRX, with the option of two modern 6-cylinder powerplant that are innovative to Cadillac - the least-displacement powerplants it makes available in North America.

The latest, 3.0-Liters direct injected V-6 unit is regular and a fresh, 2.8-Liter turbocharged V-6 is an option. Both powerplants utilize technology that assists in producing powerful performance that is characteristic of larger-displacement powerplants. Direct injection permits a 25-percent lowering of hydrocarbon emissions.

Efficiency in fuel utilization in the mid-20s on the highway is amc, but testing has not yet reached completion. Through the offered AWD system that is intended to maximize vehicle handling and stability in all driving conditions, resulting in enhanced performance and safety. Included in the AWD system is an advanced electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) that spreads torque as required from side to side through the whole length of the rear axle, in addition to from the front to rear axle.

The preventative, dynamic on-demand system offers an additional measure of capability in wet or icy circumstances. The 2010 SRX sits on a broad track that was intended to provide a lively, responsive driving pleasure. It can accommodate five passengers, with lots of occupant and cargo space, and has a 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg) towing capacity.

An autograph demonstration of the SRX's concentration to detail is the script emblem of Cadillac in the front door sill plates that light up when the doors are opened. Many advanced electronics systems are highlighted in the 2010 SRX. Features consists of a "pop-up" navigation monitor screen with three-dimensional imaging; adjustable forward lighting that turns the headlamps in concert with the steering of the vehicle; power liftgate with adaptable height setting; incorporated hard disc drive for audio storage and a dual-screen system for providing entertainment for rear seat passengers.

Provided as standard is Bluetooth compatibility, as also OnStar's turn-by-turn navigation service for customers who do not choose the vehicle's optional navigation system.

The rear sLDS brings traction control on a new level on AWD models. In either icy or wet driving conditions, the system is able to transfer up to 100 percent of torque to the wheel that has extra grip. The eLSD also offers the driver improved control when doing a hard curve or finishing a high-speed maneuver, like changing lanes, by momentarily applying more or less torque, depending on the vehicle requirement, to either of the wheels to enalbe the rear wheels to follow more closely the direction of the front wheels.

The suspension incorporates a real-time damping system in conjunction with AWD that adapts shock damping rates in response to road conditions for a seamless riding experience. The safety elements of SRX are intended to protect passengers before, during and after an accident. A tough body structure and chassis that take up crash energy is harmonized by the utilization of martensitic steel in the totally enclosed rocker areas.

Martensitic steel is one of the toughest available and its employment in the rockers aids in protecting against intrusion during a side-impact, at the same time also preserving the structure during front and rear crashes. Extra safety highlights consist of typical head curtain side air bags, regular front seat-mounted pelvic/thorax side air bags, front safety belts with double pretensioners and load limiters, sensors for rollover mitigation, a pedal release system, trailer stability assist and OnStar. The SRX was also intended to come up to European pedestrian protection benchmarks; and the front bumper is so located for greater compatibility with vehicle bumpers. Manufacture starts in the second quarter of this year, and, shortly thereafter, dealer availability.

Exterior Design

A shield grill that is multi-piece and the iconic vertical headlamps of Cadillac, with light pipe technology and offered adjustable forward lighting, are the SRX's front face. They merge into a firmly wrapped, sweeping body that narrows downward at the back, providing the vehicle an athletic outline, said Dean.

Featured in the SRX is a wide posture, minimal overhang and rims pushed to corners. 18-inch rims are regular and 20-inch rims are also available.

A bold highlight line moves across the side of the body and ends at a chrome front fender vent that includes a lamp as a side marker. An incorporated spoiler on the back edge of the top goes to the smooth lines and enhances aerodynamics.

Propelled by a fresh, fuel-economical direct injection 3.0-liter V-6 powerplant, the SRX can deliver an estimated 260 horsepower (193 kW) and comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The result of the direct injection system is more potency, more fuel savings and reduced emissions, all coming with a smaller-displacement pack. As a consequence, the latest V-6 powerplant is anticipated to boost the SRX's regular potency score by 5 horsepower, at the same time attaining an estimated enhancement of fuel economy by 10-15-percent.

The 3.0-liter direct injection V-6 is a smaller-displacement variant of the 3.6-liter, direct injection powerplant highlighted in the CTS sport sedan and designated one of the world's top 10 Best Engines for 2009 by Ward's Automotive. Together with direct injection technology, the 3.0-liter powerplant utilizes adaptable valve timing to maximize potency and fuel economy and lower emissions.

The 6-speed auto gearbox of the Hydra-Matic 6T70 aids in saving fuel by reducing the powerplant's rpm at constant speeds in highways, at the same time manual shift control permits greater driver interaction when required. The latest SRX incorporates a driver-selectable "eco mode" that modifies transmission shift points to optimize fuel efficiency.
