GMC is offering a special edition of the Canyon -- the Nightfall. GMC will make the Canyon Nightfall available on both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive SLE crew cab models. Covered in Onyx Black, the special edition will be launched in the second quarter of 2015, General Motors said in a statement, with pricing to be announced closer to the availability date.
Prior to its launch, the Nightfall will be shown at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. The Nightfall package builds on the standard equipment on the SLE, including a distinct black grille, black assist steps, factory spray-in bedliner and 18-inch multi-spoke aluminum wheels, as well as a polished exhaust tip, automatic climate control and remote start.
The package means a lot of savings than purchasing each feature separately. GMC said that over than 40 percent of the initial orders for the Canyon include at least one pick from the accessory collection it developed for the truck.
In September 2014, Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC sales and marketing, remarked that he wants a Denali version of the Canyon. Denali is GMC’s top trim level. He remarked than he targets Denali to account for a fourth of the GMC’s entire mix.
Aldred told Automotive News that if the Canyon does not get a Denali version, it would halt the progress so far in selling the Canyon. GMC sold 3,070 Canyons until December 2014 after launching the truck in September.
The new 2015 GMC Canyon has a confident exterior design that adopts the technology-laden aesthetics of the 2014 Sierra 1500 and 2015 Sierra HD models. In addition, the new Canyon comes with a quiet, refined interior that makes use of premium materials.
GMC is offering the new Canyon in three body configurations: an extended cab model with a six-foot two-inch bed; a crew cab with a five-foot two-inch bed; and a crew cab with a six-foot two-inch bed. Interestingly, the Canyon could haul an eight-foot long cargo when the tailgate is down.
On the front end, the new GMC Canyon employs projector beam headlamps as standard as well as signature LED daytime running lamps. Just like the 2014 Sierra, the new Canyon features triple-sealed doors inlaid in the body sides, enhancing its aerodynamic performance while providing a quieter interior. The new Canyon is the first in the segment to employ active aero grille shutters that would close at particular highway speeds to improve aerodynamics and efficiency. The new Canyon also sports an all-new aluminum hood that helps keep its overall mass down while improving its front-to-rear weight balance.
The new Canyon is the first in the segment to feature a CornerStep rear bumper design, which was first seen on the 2014 Sierra. This standard feature is finished with chrome on all models, except for the All Terrain, where it is finished in body color.
Likewise, the new Canyon is the first in its segment to employ the EZ Lift-and-Lower locking tailgate that employs an internal torsion bar to allow users to raise the tailgate with just one hand. This EZ Lift-and-Lower locking tailgate also employs a damper for better-controlled lowering. EZ Lift-and-Lower locking tailgate is standard on SLE and SLT models, and optional on base models.
GMC equipped the new Canyon with four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife rotors. GMC also provided the new Canyon with 13 reconfigurable and four stationary tie-down locations throughout the bed, all of which could be used with the available, removable cargo tie-down rings. Customers may also avail of the factory-installed spray-in bed liner.
