Infiniti was just one of those names that have dropped bombshells in terms of new offerings during the 2016 North American International Auto Show, but it sure did not disappoint with the release of the new Infiniti Q60.
Powered by a high-performance 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine, the new Infiniti Q60 features a much higher output than any vehicles released so far by the company.
The new engine produces excellent torque and horsepower, but also excels in fuel efficiency. With a team experienced in designing six-cylinder powerhouses, buyers can take their pick between a 300-horsepower V6 or a 400-horsepower V6.
For the additional pricing, the 400 HP V6 strikes up an excellent balance of horsepower and fuel efficiency that far exceeds other engines in the premium sports coupe class.
A four-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline engine, turbocharged to produce 208 horsepower, is also available in the Q60. For those who are not looking for that level of power, an optional four-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline engine is available.
This engine produces 208 horsepower, but is also frugal when it comes to fuel consumption. Power and looks come together in this new premium sports coupe.
An elegant design language has been employed in the Q60’s exterior, employing muscularity and proportions to a level that can only be described as “bold.” The bar in aerodynamic design has also been raised in the Q60. Working together with features like adaptive steering and digital suspension systems, only two words can be used to describe the Q60: functionality and performance.
The Q60 employs an intuitive rear-wheel drive, but buyers can also opt to install a rear-biased Intelligent All-Wheel Drive technology. With the AWD in place, the Q60 can be even more stable and produce more traction even in low-grip conditions. Working with the rear-wheel drive and/or the optional AWD is the Infiniti Dynamic Digital Suspension.
This combination results to several exciting capabilities for the Q60, namely, unparalleled handling response, excellent driving comfort and never-before-seen agility. These features are rounded out by the second-generation Direct Adaptive Steering found in the Q60.
The Direct Adaptive Steering provides three modes of handling, all of which can be accessed through the Drive Mode Selector. Of course, these steering and handling technologies will be for naught if not for the enhanced capabilities of the new range of engines for the Q60. As mentioned earlier, there are three options for powertrains that can be attached to the Q60. All of these engines promise excellent power and propulsion, as well as terrific responsiveness and fuel efficiencies. First in line is the all-new 3.0-liter V6 twin turbo engine.
Infiniti Q60 will be instrumental to maintaining the excellent and rapid growth for the car maker, which saw monumental increases in sales of new vehicles in 2015. Specifically, Infiniti has intended the Q60 to be the company’s key to making a comeback in the premium sports coupe segment.
Q60 is poised to be the rocket that will propel the company’s global launch forward. The sports coupe is a market that Infiniti has gained significant ground in, first with the G35 in 2002. The G35’s first generation model has performed positively in the market thanks to the designers’ efforts at blending class-leading performance and head-turning aesthetics.
The G35 was then followed by the G37, which was also designed with the same goals in mind. Hence, it won’t be a surprise that the Q60, basically the company’s third generation sports coupe, will follow in the same footsteps and achieve the same success.
In fact, response to the unveiling has already been positive as the world press and NAIAS attendees have seen the elegance, dynamics and performance promised by the premiums sports coupe.
Of course, Infiniti has not sacrificed the interiors just to ensure performance. A standard aluminum trim is available for the base model. However, one can choose to have the base Q60’s interiors carry a black wood trim. Carbon fiber highlights are available only for the Sport and Premium models. If you opt for the Q60 that feature red or white leather seats, silver glass fiber accents come as a standard.
