Infiniti has officially named its stylish sedan concept and is calling it the Q Inspiration Concept. Set to make its official debut during the 2018 North American International Auto Show this January in Detroit, this model is expected to reveal the future design direction of the brand.
Serving as a preview, Infiniti has released a teaser photo showing a front section that is heavily sculpted with narrow headlights and with some ribbing in its grille. This highly curvaceous shape is expected to guide the upcoming flagship sedan model of the brand.
Overall, the concept sedan reveals a design that is fairly simple. It is one with more pronounced fenders and a flowing roof. By putting an outlet at the back of the front fenders, it gives this area that additional sporty swagger. Going to the rear section, it is more rounded and displays a wraparound and narrow taillight which goes across the entire width of the model. Its exhaust has been integrated to the bumper’s lower region. From looking at the roof, there’s obviously a large area composed of glass. When combined with a large greenhouse, it gives the impression of an airy cabin and exceptional visibility.
Talking about the concept sedan, Infiniti Design Director Karim Habib said that the goal was to make use of the traditional sedan platform and take it to the next stage of its evolution. With a look that is more flowing and a cabin that is balanced and unexpectedly long, the Q Inspiration is able to deliver an uncommon shape. That the Q inspiration has an elongated body and shorter hood, he continued, is a result of experimenting with new proportions in a segment that is usually considered as conservative. The changes have the added advantage of improving the interior comfort, space and wellbeing, Habib said.
While the brand has yet to reveal the specifications of the engine, Habib did tease that it would be a shift to something that is more compact, smarter, and more importantly, less intrusive. There is an agreement though that it could be the upcoming variable compression engine as it is the only one that manages to fit such a description. Compared to standard engines, this one is lighter as well as smaller. Vibration and noise levels are also lower as well. This four-cylinder Variable Compression-Turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, at least for the production version anyway, has its output measured at 268 hp (200 kW) with peak torque of 288 lb.-ft. (390 Nm).
Customers will be glad to know that Nissan’s overall design head Alfonso Albaisa has confirmed that the Q Inspiration will indeed function as a preview of Infiniti’s new flagship sedan. He added though that this model is still some years away from being available for purchase.
