Toyota Supra will not debut at upcoming 2018 Detroit Auto Show

Article by Christian A., on December 8, 2017

This just in: Japanese automaker Toyota recently announced that their latest Supra sports car will not be making an appearance at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show next month as expected by many.

In an interview between Motor Trend and Jack Hollis, vice president and general manager of the Toyota division in North America, the latter mentioned that the Detroit Auto Show is coming up too soon for them to unveil the sports car. This is because Toyota has yet to finalize the vehicle’s specifications. They also said that it is not at production levels just yet.

Just like at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show, many Supra fans were excited to see the highly anticipated Supra, but it turned out to be a no show. And even after that, Supra enthusiasts continued to hope that they would see it. And now, its supposed debut has been cancelled again, and we have no idea when to expect it anymore.

What we do not understand is the fact that they said that it is too soon to be revealed and that it is not ready yet, because it has been running around places in its camo suit for months.

But the release date is not the only issue Toyota is facing right now. The Japanese automaker is also considering changing the Supra’s nameplate to something else. Hollis said that this issue just came out last week, and there is already a selection of other names that the automaker may want to utilise because they are “pretty strong”. He then adds that the sports car will remain unnamed until next year.

We definitely understand that Supra fans would want to see the comeback of the nameplate. However, the automaker says that the car’s success will not be based on its name, but on its performance instead. This is also the reason why Toyota must keep up with the hype and expectations of the younger generation. The automaker should not disappoint or they might just regret coming out with this new sports car.

Toyota has been working with BMW for the development of the Supra nameplate. And we were also informed once that this particular model will be offered in two different engines. These options include a 248 horsepower four cylinder as the cheaper option, and a 335 horsepower six cylinder option for the more expensive version. Both models should be available in the United States when it is released.

So, all we have to do for now is wait for Toyota to announce a possible reveal of the Toyota Supra. We don’t even know what to call it anymore, but for the sake of discussion, let us just call it their latest sporty coupe.
