Ford Motor Co. has unveiled its all-new new Edge. With this, the brand’s SUV range will now include the highly popular ST variant. This new model comes just as Ford has recorded the best sales for its SUVs in the U.S. market.
Making this newest offering even more unique is that this will be the first SUV from the brand to be tuned by none other than the Ford Performance team. Powering the Edge ST is the specially tuned twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. It can deliver an output amounting to 335 hp with peak torque at 380 lb.-ft., making it the segment’s most powerful V6 engine.
Paired to the powerful engine is the automatic quick-shifting 8-speed transmission with a standard all-wheel drive having selectable traction control. A performance brake package is offered and a sport suspension is tuned for the ST. All of these result in dynamic handling.
Putting in a Sport Mode option ensures that owners are able to feel a throttle response that is clearly more aggressive. Sharper engine braking can be experienced well and it also offers an even richer exhaust sound. For those who prefer a manual shift, they may use the SelectShift paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.
Given the exceptional performance abilities of the new Edge ST, Ford made sure that this would be complemented with an amazing style, both on the front and the rear. The mesh grille has been made wider in order to optimize cooling. Other features include the deep side skirts and the dual-exhaust outlets. The body is then positioned on the truly distinct 21-inch wheels. The same treatment was done on the interior and this can be seen on the seat backs, scuff plates, and the steering. Overall, it gives a subtle hint to customers that this five-passenger SUV from Ford is offering something truly special.
The Edge ST is not just about performance as it is also the smartest SUV to come from the brand. Each model from this range will be fitted with more driver-assist features as standard compared to other midsized SUVs in the market.
It also has a number of first-in-segment features. An example of this is the Post-Collision Braking which lowers any impact of a possible secondary collision. Other such features are the Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering and the Evasive Steering Assist.
According to Edge Marketing Manager Cristina Aquino, Edge drivers look forward to a driving experience that is more contemporary and sophisticated. He continued by saying that by putting in as standard a wide array of new technologies and introducing features that are clearly the first in the segment, drivers will be more confident when handling the new Edge ST.
The new Edge ST will be manufactured at the Oakville Assembly Plant located in Ontario, Canada. Ford disclosed that this latest offering will arrive this summer at showrooms.
