For those of you who are looking to get a new pickup truck, you might want to consider the 2019 Ram 1500, as the facelifted model not only has been made lighter, but is also powerful, safer, and more capable.
First of all, it is now 225 pounds lighter than its predecessor, because the tailgate is now made of aluminum, while the frame is now made of high strength steel. Unlike the Ford F-Series, the Ram is not getting an all aluminum body just yet. That is because steel is still needed for areas that need long term durability, says head of Ram, Jim Morrison.
Another area that has been greatly improved would be the truck’s aerodynamics. Its overall drag coefficient has decreased by nine percent to 0.357. This is the result of the standard active grille shutters, higher bed side rails, and of course, a lower suspension. It even comes with an electrically deployable aero spoiler that extends down from the bumper when the car hits 30-35 miles per hour. If in case the spoiler hits something on the road, there is no need to worry as it has the one-way clutch linkage. Trucks with air suspension also lower about 0.6 inch at higher speeds.
What also helps with the diet would be the mild hybrid powertrains. It comes standard with a 3.6 liter V6, while there is a V8 option of 5.7 liters. This works with an “E-Torque” system that uses a 48 volt started generator for extra grunt during low speed acceleration, which we would say is a bit similar to the Jeep Wrangler. The engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. And in the back of the cabin is a 0.43 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Later on, we can expect a 3.0 liter EcoDiesel V6 engine that will join the lineup.
When it comes to performance figures, the V6 engine delivers 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, and the more powerful V8 boasts 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. As for capability, the Ram 1500 can tow up to a maximum of 12,700 pounds, and payload is up to 2,300 pounds. That’s a substantial improvement over its predecessor that only had a maximum of 10,620 and 1,880, respectively.
The Ram 1500’s design has also been changed a lot, as there is no more crosshair grille design, while the headlights have been moved upwards by 1.5 inches. Overall, the 2019 design looks sleeker and it comes with a more modern touch. Customers have 12 colour options, six trim levels, and 15 different wheel designs to choose from. The size goes up to 22 inches in diameter.
Of course, safety features come as standard, and this includes things like a 360 degree camera with blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and pre collision braking. The front cameras are now mounted at the top of the windshield instead of the grille.
