Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Concept revealed ahead of 2014 Detroit Auto Show

Article by Christian A., on December 5, 2013

At the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, Infiniti will reveal a Formula One inspired concept car based on the Q50 premium sports sedan. Dubbed Q50 Eau Rouge, the car is named after the famous corner at the Formula One track in Spa-Francorchamps. For those who don’t know, this corner requires extraordinary strength, courage and commitment.

The Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Concept promises to blend road car technology and a thoroughbred motorsport vision.

As you can see from the photos, the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept comes with aerodynamic styling and design elements influenced by the world of Formula 1 and by the partnership with Formula One world championship-winning team Infiniti Red Bull Racing.

Wrapped in a customized red finish, the new Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge is definitely menacing, both in looks and performance. The menacing looks of the Q50 Eau Rouge can be seen on its new front and rear fenders that make the concept wider on the shoulder by around 20 mm. This could also be seen on its larger deck lid spoiler that generates ample downforce.

While the production Q50 features bright chrome detailing, the Q50 Eau Rouge dons the opposite – dark chrome works serve to make the concept a lot meaner on the road. This dark chrome finish is evident on the Q50's signature double-arch front grille, door handles, deck lid accents as well as on the glasshouse surrounds. Its curving bonnet features two air vents, suggestive of the concept dynamic capability.

Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti's Executive Design Director, remarked that the shared passion for performance by the premium carmaker and Infiniti Red Bull Racing has resulted to a common goal of creating an ambitious and powerful Infiniti Q50 design study -- the new Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Concept.

He noted that the design of the new Q50 Eau Rouge features a number of distinctive touches inspired by Formula One, including the sculpted front wing assembly and the rear aerodynamic packaging that were derived from the RB9 race car. He added that even the rear fog light packaging is derived from Formula One.

Albaisa called the 50 Eau Rouge as a fusion of the seductive lines of the Q50 and the fiercer design of a high-performance vehicle. He remarked that the Q50 Eau Rouge is Infiniti to the power of four, comparing it to a bull with flexed shoulder muscles and wrapped in Infiniti clothing.
