Lexus to unveil an updated LX at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show

Article by Christian A., on December 15, 2011

The news regarding the 2012 Detroit Auto Show keep coming and the latest vehicle to debut at the well-known auto show is an updated version of the Lexus LX570 sport utility vehicle. The folks from Autoblog report that a Lexus spokesman confirmed the new vehicle and we have to say that it was time as the current model keeps the same design from 2008.

Still, Bill Kwong, Lexus Communications Specialist, says that we don’t have to expect a dramatic change as the updated LX will get mostly cosmetic changes such as an updated sheetmetal and new front and rear ends. The interior will show minor modifications and a possible upgrade to the infotainment system.

Under the hood we expect to find the same 5.7-liter V8 engine delivering 383 hp @ 5600 rpm and 403 ft-lbs. @ 3600 rpm, mated to a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission. And this is not the only model from Lexus coming to the Detroit Auto Show as the Japanese manufacturer will also unveil a new concept car.

For the 2013 Lexus LX 570, both the front and the rear section have been redesigned. It has a new design for the headlamp while now having larger fog lamps bezels, which complement the new daytime running lights that utilize LED. Redesigned as well are the tail lamps which have been updated, as is the license plate surround in the rear.

While both the front bumper and the rear bumper have been redesigned as well, the protector of the rear bumper is improved even further through the use of a stainless steel highlight. In fact, the tow hitch cover has been integrated even more. Meanwhile on its side mirrors, turn signals have been added. Since the body side moldings are wider, it gives it that athletic appearance. This model is indeed equipped with various upgrades.

The driver’s seat for example has that Easy Access system, allowing ingress and egress in an easier manner. Updated as well is its instrument panel. It also has a new color display. The center instrument cluster has a dark chrome finish, as do the side air vents in the front. Just above the glove box, there is a new chrome highlight which also helps give a fresh look to the instrument panel.

Going back to its seats, they have better cooling with the middle row now having a power outlet of 120 volts. Once the ignition has been turned off, the driver’s seat and the steering wheel immediately retract. On the inside, the cabin is fitted with mahogany wood trim. Rather than Cashmere as the color of the leather trim of the interior, it now has Parchment.

Two new colors for its exterior will be offered as replacement of two old colors. These are Satin Cashmere Metallic and Medium Nebula Gray Pearl, both replacing Golden Almond Metallic and Twilight Gray Metallic. Truly, the spindle grille, plus an upgraded interior with the alloy-20-inch wheel design, helps ensure that the Lexus LX 570, which can seat eight, remains committed to being perfect for demanding off-road adventures but also to provide for a luxurious daily drive.
