We reported about the Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport back in April but today we found out that company’s new model will be introduced in January at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The new model will be the missing link between the standard Mercedes-Benz C400 and the more potent C63 AMG.
Under the hood it will carry a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine bolted to a seven-speed automatic transmission that is found on the C400, but boosted from 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque to around 367 hp.
In addition, the C450 AMG will also arrive with some visual upgrades such as wider fenders and bigger wheels. We also expect the new vehicle to feature an improved braking system as well a stiffer suspension.
For those who don’t know, the C450 AMG Sport is part of Mercedes-Benz’ plan to offer a new range of AMG Sport models that will be slotted beneath the high-performance AMG vehicles.
The vehicles will be comparable to the S models from Audi and with the BMW’s M performance lineup. What’s more interesting is that we will see AMG Sport models using petrol engines as well as turbodiesel powerplants.
As standard, AMG Sport vehicles will arrive be rear-wheel-drive but as an option the German manufacturer will offer the 4Matic four-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-Benz will offer AMG Sport models based on the A, B, C, E and S-Class as well as GL, M, GLK and GLA Class.
The fascinating combination of motor racing and everyday driving offered by the C450 AMG 4Matic is very evident on its looks. Even at a glance, the C450 AMG 4Matic is easily recognizable as a member of the AMG family. It is laden with a number of distinctive design elements like its AMG body styling, light-alloy wheels and the special AMG badge on the front wings – all underlining the brand’s progressive performance. The strong power of its twin-turbo six-cylinder mill is conveyed through its engine cover with a red aluminum insert.
Featured AMG body styling on the C450 AMG 4Matic includes a front bumper with sporty air intakes, diamond meshes and silver chrome trim. Further AMG body styling includes the rear bumper with matt iridium silver diffuser insert. The saloon version of the C450 AMG 4Matic features a separation edge on the boot lid, while the estate variant comes with a roof spoiler.
The C450 AMG 4Matic is provided with silver chrome and high-gloss black exterior elements, with the radiator grille featuring a high-gloss black louver and chrome inserts, as well as chrome pins. The new C450 AMG 4Matic also features high-gloss black waistline trim strip and window frame, black exterior mirror housings, and two chrome-plated dual tailpipe trim elements.
Meanwhile, the optional complementary Night package adds more dark details like a high-gloss black front bumper trim and a high-gloss black diffuser-look insert at the rear as well as heat-insulating dark tinted glass rearward of the B-pillar and two black chrome-plated dual tailpipe trim elements.
