We reported about the Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport back in April but today we found out that company’s new model will be introduced in January at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The new model will be the missing link between the standard Mercedes-Benz C400 and the more potent C63 AMG.
Under the hood it will carry a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine bolted to a seven-speed automatic transmission that is found on the C400, but boosted from 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque to around 367 hp.
In addition, the C450 AMG will also arrive with some visual upgrades such as wider fenders and bigger wheels. We also expect the new vehicle to feature an improved braking system as well a stiffer suspension.
For those who don’t know, the C450 AMG Sport is part of Mercedes-Benz’ plan to offer a new range of AMG Sport models that will be slotted beneath the high-performance AMG vehicles.
The vehicles will be comparable to the S models from Audi and with the BMW’s M performance lineup. What’s more interesting is that we will see AMG Sport models using petrol engines as well as turbodiesel powerplants.
As standard, AMG Sport vehicles will arrive be rear-wheel-drive but as an option the German manufacturer will offer the 4Matic four-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-Benz will offer AMG Sport models based on the A, B, C, E and S-Class as well as GL, M, GLK and GLA Class.
