2013 Frankfurt Motor Show: Bmw Concept Active Tourer Outdoor [Live Photos]

BMW brought the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor to the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) to showcase how to utilize interior space, whether it’s for sport or leisure. BMW hopes that with this concept car, which belongs to the premium compact segment, the brand will be able to promote its manner of merging sporting aesthetics and style with sustainable drive technology, compact dimensions and functionality.

Utmost efficiency is ensured with this environmentally friendly plug-in hybrid drive system, with its combination of a combustion engine and an electric motor. BMW talks about its compact dimensions and sporty design while offering plenty of interior space. It has a variable rear compartment meant to fit in sports and leisure equipment.

It is powered by a transversely mounted 1.5-litre petrol engine with front-wheel drive. It features a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drive concept that provides the features of both an electric motor and a traditional combustion engine. The sportiness of the BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor is emphasized further with its use of Exclusive Gold Race Orange exterior paintwork. B

BMW used easy-care, durable interior materials for this concept. These include MoonWhite and MoonRock Grey leather that is resilient to contact with outdoor equipment. Another highlight is a carrier system for two bicycles (built into the interior). It also comes with more smart details that make the BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor perfect for active recreational sports fans.

BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor establishes that having compact proportions, practicality, and adaptability can be integrated seamlessly into its vibrant design. The unique Gold Race Orange paintwork plays up the athletic look of the Active Tourer Outdoor concept car. A main component of the distinctive BMW front is the attractive, slightly tilted BMW kidney grille that is completed with dazzling orange accent strips on two of the grille bars.

The dual headlamps with LED accents placed like eyebrows over them, reach far towards the front wings and, with the faceted front apron, strengthen the vehicle’s presence. The two large air intakes below the main headlamps accentuate the sporty look from the front.

When seen from the side, even when not moving, the lengthened profile that suggests a wedge form gives the BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor a vibrant charm that is unparalleled in its class. The 20” wheels are painted partly in Gold Race Orange to reinforce the vehicle’s sporty looks.

Well-defined horizontal body outlines accent the rear view of the solid BMW. The big rear lights that extend fully into the vehicle's sides accentuate the wheel’s broad face, providing a visual highlight to the auto's absolute road authority. The sizable tailgate gives handy access to the storage area, due to its low loading ledge and broad opening. The exhaust pipes combined into the back apron of the BMW Active Tourer Outdoor are also Gold Race Orange.
