On its way to IAA in Frankfurt from Bentley was an "S" version of the Continental GT V8 that that offers more power, with an additional 21 bhp (16 kW). In January 2012, Bentley launched the Continental GT V8 at NAIAS in Detroit. It features an eight-cylinder twin-turbo 4.0-liter engine that produces 500 bhp (373 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft).
The "S" version will receive a slight boost in power of 21 bhp (16 kW) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft), raising the total to 521 bhp (389 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) at 1,700 rpm. With this power increase, the Bentley Continental GT V8 S Coupe is capable of accelerating from zero to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds. This makes it 0.3s faster than the regular model.
Meanwhile, its top speed has been raised from 188 mph (303 km/h) to 192 mph (309 km/h). The Convertible is able to accelerate to 62 mph after just 4.7s and can reach a top speed of 191 mph (308 km/h). Even with the added power, the coupe can still be driven up to 500 miles (805 km) before running out of fuel. This means a combined fuel economy of 26.8 mpg UK (22.3 mpg US or 10.5 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 246 g/km.
The Convertible offers 25.9 mpg UK (21.5 mpg US or 10.9 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 254 grams per kilometer. The S version will also have its ride height lowered by 10mm. In addition, it gets 45-percent front / 33-percent rear stiffened spring rates, updated dampers, modified stability control system and a stiffer rear sway bar to make handling more active. The front as well as the rear fascias has gotten some slight revisions, together with new 20-inch alloy wheels.
Although the Bentley Continental GT features a coachwork that takes inspiration from the iconic Bentleys of the past, advanced body construction techniques have been employed to create its modern, sculpted design its crisp feature lines. This effectively allows the new Bentley Continental GT to achieve best-in-class quality and body integrity.
Meanwhile, S models of the new Continental feature a more dramatic design to lend the vehicle a superb on-the-road presence. This is enhanced by the fact the S models are provided with lowered suspension. This give the S models a sleeker stance that is complemented by a distinct lower-body styling: a sharper front splitter; a subtle rear diffuser finished in Beluga gloss; and more discrete side sills. On the other hand, the power of the V8 engine is conveyed by its black gloss radiator grille -- with single chrome divider bar -- and 'figure of eight' exhaust tail pipes.
As intended, S models ride on signature 20-inch wheels with an open-spoke design, as complemented by red-painted brake calipers. S models also feature subtle 'V8 S' badges on the front fenders as well as a Bentley Wings badges with a red center.
Just like the Continental GT W12, the Continental GT V8 S models could be finished with any of the available 17 paint colors. Interestingly, seven of these colors are highly recommended by Bentley Design as they further accentuate the sporty nature of the new vehicle. Set as signature colors for the GT V8 S are Kingfisher Blue and the new Monaco Yellow.
