2013 IAA: Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing Concept drops its top in Frankfurt [Live Photos]

Article by Anita Panait, on September 13, 2013

Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing concept made its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept merges the best of the DS3 Racing hatchback with the sophistication of the new DS3 Cabrio, as it refers to the carmaker's World Rally Championship connection. The custom-built DS3 Cabrio Racing concept has the looks as well as the performance of a car tuned by Citroen Racing, a multi-WRC title team.

The dynamically styled DS3 Cabrio Racing concept boasts of a bespoke Moondark matt textured grey paintwork.

It also features special gloss black 19” alloy wheels as well as Black Chrome inserts on the handles, boot trim and door mirrors. Appearing on the black canvas roof in gloss weave and on the on the door mirror housings is characteristic DS pattern.

Finished in Carmin red are the car's brake callipers, wheel hubs and doors. The interior of the DS3 Cabrio Racing concept features bucket seats with a DS watchstrap design in three fabric types: Napa full-grain leather, DS-embossed leather and Alcantara. A special DS pearl top-stitching, featured in the Carmin shade for the first time, can be found on the seats, dashboard and gearshift.

The freshly-released Citroën DS3 Cabrio keeps the hatchback's exclusive profile, with a similar compact, dynamic proportions and striking styling options from the ‘floating’ two-tone roof and 'shark fin’ B-pillar to the etched front-end with its distinguishable LED light signature.

Keeping up with the DS line's broad customization levels, Citroën DS3 Cabrio is offered in seven body colors with three color-coordinated roof designs for a choice of up to fourteen blends. There are nine diverse wheel styles to give the customers a chance to express their character significantly further, and they can also indicate 16" or 17" alloys in a range of colors and designs.

Broad chrome detailing, such as the over the top of the boot cover and on the side rubbing strips, features the model's alluring design, with dark tinted rear windows integrating a better styling touch.

At the rear, Citroën DS3 Cabrio brags a head-turning three-dimensional LED light signature. The brand-new 3D LED tail-light innovation was roused by the designs on Citroën's Revolte and Survolt concept vehicles. The focal part of the light is made up of a rectangular set of 31 LEDs with semi-reflecting mirrors that echo the light into ‘infinity’. A 15-LED blade on the upper area of the light highlights the 3D unit and operates as both side and brake lights. A chrome-finished DS logo, in an embellished black DS setting, is additionally integrated into the already stacked design.

Press Release

Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing Concept

Citroen has chosen the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the annual meeting of historic racing cars, to reveal the Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing Concept, a nod at Citroen's involvement in the WRC. The concept car will also make an appearance at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new concept car combines the best of the Citroen DS3 Racing with all the sophistication of the DS3 Cabrio.

This is a choice that makes sense since the Citroen DS3 Cabrio is not only easy to customise, it also features optimised architecture (weighing in at just 25 kg more than the hatchback), for an exceptionally lively and agile performance, as demonstrated by Sébastien Loeb himself at Col du Corbier in the French Alps.

The Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing Concept makes a spectacular first impression, with its extreme customisation and sporting appeal. Moondark mat textured grey paintwork is allied with gloss black 19" wheels, and Black Chrome inserts on the handles, boot trim and door mirrors.

The concept is DS through and through, with bold identity statements such as the DS pattern — featured in gloss weave on the black canvas roof with its high-tech carbon-fibre look and engraved on the door mirror housings — and the Carmin coloured brake callipers, wheel hubs, doors with the wide side strips, and parts of the lettering and badge.

Citroen Racing know-how also takes centre stage, with special running gear, brakes and carbon kit. And the car maintains the performance of the Racing version, with a 1.6 litre engine developing 202 bhp.

On board, the Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing Concept combines performance and elegance with bucket seats featuring a new take on the DS watch strap design in three types of fabric (Napa full-grain leather, DS-embossed leather and Alcantara) interpretation of DS watchstrap upholstery on the bucket seats, and special DS pearl top-stitching, featured in Carmin for the first time on the seats, dashboard and gearshift. Carmin also appears on the seat housings and dashboard, echoing the door side strips.

The Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing concept car mindset extends through a line of lifestyle products including a child seat in three-material watchstrap-design leather upholstery, coordinated with the other seats, and helmets in the car body colours.

Citroen's new concept car is an expression of custom-built excellence, radical choices and sophistication in every detail. A convertible DS3 with the performance and sporting looks of a car tuned by Citroen Racing.
