Toyota spices up 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show display with new Hilux Invincible 50 special model

Article by Christian A., on September 18, 2017

A pickup truck that is soon celebrating its 50th birthday has the right to be invincible, especially if it has conquered various terrains and weather conditions not only in one part of the globe, but around the world – including the North Pole and the slopes of Icelandic volcanoes. Building on this, the Toyota Hilux celebrates its half-a-century of existence in the global pickup truck market with the unveiling of a special edition model at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Dubbed as the Toyota Hilux Invincible 50, this special edition show car marks 50 years of the pickup truck’s dominance in the global market. Toyota Hilux Invincible 50 marks the iconic status of the pickup truck around the world.

Toyota first released the Hilux in 1968, and commenced its sales in Europe a year after in 1969. After eight generations and nearly 50 years, more than 18 million units have found their way into customers’ hands, not just in a few markets, but in more than 180 countries and regions around the world. This is why the Toyota Hilux can be seen on the roads and even the off-roads of Europe, North and South Americas, Africa and Asia. In fact, the iconic pickup truck has already conquered a number of challenging places and events, like in Antarctica, the Dakar Rally and the Top Gear program of TV channel BBC.

The appeal of the Toyota Hilux in Europe is evidenced by the fact that so far this year, more than 40,600 units of the pickup truck have been sold. This number is already 500 units more than its European record sales set in the full year 2007.

Creating the Invincible 50 special edition is definitely a good way to highlight the 50 years of success of the Toyota Hilux. The Hilux Invincible 50 is provided with a wide range of bespoke accessories that demonstrate how the pickup truck could be equipped for both work and play.

Built on a Double Cab model, the Hilux Invincible 50 is marked by matt black high-over and side bars, black wheel arch moldings and a black front under-run. It rides on special 18-inch alloys in matt black finish, as wrapped in All Terrain tires from BF Goodrich. The new Toyota Hilux Invincible 50 also features a plastic bed liner and a large tool box as well as edition-specific scuff plates. Inside, the new Toyota Hilux Invincible 50 is provided a leather handbrake trim and floor mats.

Toyota says the Hilux Invincible 50 is a show car, so it might mean that it won’t be offered for the public. However, a very positive feedback from visitors of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show could prompt Toyota to offer the Hilux Invincible 50 to the driving public.
