Images of BMW Concept X7 iPerformance leak before official introduction at Frankfurt

Article by Christian A., on September 8, 2017

A number of images of the concept version of its X7 luxury SUV – the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance – have been leaked just days before the opening of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.

For the past few years, BMW has been keeping its luxury customers on their toes over the arrival of its much-anticipated BMW X7 luxury sports utility vehicle. No official images had been released while renderings have sprouted left and right, further increasing the level of excitement over the new X7 luxury SUV. Although spy images of the BMW X7 have already been leaked to the public, these only reveal an SUV that was still fully wrapped in camouflage, making it quite hard to look closer at the details.

Likewise, the camouflage has made it hard to imagine the overall looks of the BMW X7 luxury SUV. Fans, enthusiasts and even potential customers have to rely on renderings to spice up their imaginations while waiting for BMW to unveil the true appearance of the BMW X7.

But it seems the long wait is over after Bimmerpost leaked quite a number of images of the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance, which should preview how the production version of the BMW X7 would look like when launched. The post on the Web site’s forums also included some juicy details about the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance. It is highly likely that the leak pertains to what the German premium referred to in its Twitter post as “something big.” BMW could be implicitly announcing that it would unveil the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The leak shows that the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance comes with a dominant front end as defined by new interpretation of classical BMW elements. For instance, the powerful front end features a vertical kidney grille that is larger than usual. Its frame and bars are in a single piece, further boosting the aggressive frontal appearance of the X7 concept. The grille is flanked by and connected to slim elongated twin headlights that employ BMW laser light, which has blue X signature that points to it being a part of BMW’s SAV family.

The full width of the lower section of the front apron features a prominent bar that rises vertically to surround the outer air intakes. Likewise, the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance features quasi-vertical aero lips as well as trapezoidal bumpers and underguard.

On the rear, the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance is defined by vertical aero lips, slim three-dimensional L-shape rear lights as connected by a classy chrome bar, as well as body-colored underguard. Interestingly, the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance features no tailpipe embellishers in the rear apron, pointing to the SUV’s plug-in hybrid drive concept.

Since the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance is a concept, we don’t expect that all of the aggressive design cues will be adopted into the production version. We anticipate that these cues would be toned down. Of course, we are glad that to know how the new BMW X7 luxury SUV is taking shape.
