At the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Infiniti will bring a new compact luxury concept dubbed Q30. As expected, the new vehicle targets young buyers and as its name says it, it will be priced below the company’s smallest current model, the recently introduced Q50. For the moment there are not much details regarding the Q30, but the Japanese manufacturer says that its new concept car will use innovative materials, as it wants to appeal to a new generation of premium customers.
The new Infiniti Q30 Concept is definitely a coherent design study, evident on the fluidity of its contours and the dynamism of its stretched silhouette. This is also evident on the originality and ambition of its interior.
Infiniti intended the new design language of the new Infiniti Q30 Concept to fully reflect its intention to deliver a product that excels in terms of design, materials, craftsmanship and performance, as well as fit and finish. The harmonious relationship between the body’s bold sections and intersecting lines has resulting to an elegant interplay between light and shadow. Its body surfaces, meanwhile, feature a shape that evokes that of graceful cats like the cheetah.
The overall design of the new Infiniti Q30 Concept was a result of the decision by the design team -- led by Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa – to take a disciplined artistic approach. The design team also decided to make use of lightweight composites and carbon fiber to make the concept as light as possible while improving performance.
Albaisa remarked that thanks to this approach, the Q30 Concept doesn't feel heavy, and is instead more horizontal, floating and sculptural. He noted that the new Q30 Concept features a strong Italian design flavor laden with spontaneity and fluidity, as well as Latin playfulness. He added that the Q30 Concept could be compared to a combination of Italian coachwork and Japanese brushstroke.
"This Infiniti Q30 Concept is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion which underpins our aggressive global growth strategy," said Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company, Ltd. "In our quest to appeal to the modern, young-minded premium customer, the Infiniti Q30 Concept has a distinctive style and reaches new levels of product quality."
"Q30 Concept is slender, sleek and seductive," said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director. "When you see speedy big cats, like cheetahs, they have a slenderness and a lightweight stride. It's almost like they're floating. That's the muscularity we were aiming for with Q30 Concept."
