Article by Christian A., on September 17, 2015

BRABUS has long been known around the world as the best when it comes to making the appearance of high-end cars even more exciting. With more than four decades of experience, BRABUS has revealed an exclusive sports program for the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S models from Mercedes.

The modifications done by BRABUS allow the models to experience an increase in the output to 441 kW / 600 HP or 591 bhp. It also increased the torque to a maximum of 750 Nm or 553 lb.-ft. Finally, a 325 km/h or 201 mph top speed is attained.

The design of the exterior has been modified as well. Its components are now made from clear-coated carbon, making it more aerodynamic. Then there are the forged BRABUS Monoblock F wheels which are ultra-light and a sports suspension that has different selectable settings for ride height and damping.

Made from lightweight titanium, the sports exhaust system has an electronically controlled sound management. Also made from real carbon are the fine leather inlays and interiors with a precious wood upgrade.

Exterior Design

The materials that have been used by BRABUS for this enhancement are the same as those used by sports car in Formula 1. Thus the components enhance the aerodynamics since as they’re made from carbon, are strong yet lightweight.

The different parts have been developed in wind tunnel thus it results in a more exciting design while improving aerodynamics. All of the components of the bodywork have a racing-look clear-coated carbon finish. An optional matte coating is available for the whole body or even as a contrast.

The coupe’s front bumper also had a visual enhancement through the addition of a front spoiler. The improvements do not stop there. When driving at higher speeds, the front axle’s lift is reduced, thus having more stable handling.

BRABUS also added two covers for the bumper’s side intakes leading to this two-seater having a more eye-catching face. At the same time, these optimize how cooling air is routed. Active safety is also optimized with the integration on LED side markers.

The profile has been sharpened by changing the design on the air outlets of the front fenders giving it a more full-blooded racing touch. Its integrated BRABUS logotypes have a blue light one the door handle or keyless-entry remote are activated.

With the new BRABUS rocker panels, the front engine has a sleeker and lower visual stance. It also allows for the optimization of the airflow between the front wheel and rear wheel arches. The rear of the GT or GT S gets a more athletic appearance through the BRABUS rear airfoil and diffuser with custom-made cutouts for its sports exhaust system’s tailpipes.

Furthermore, all of the components that enhance the aerodynamic contribute to better handling stability during high speeds. Then there are the forged wheels. Again tailor-made for the GT and GT S, it adds to the already thrilling look.

The staggered tire and wheel combination further adds highlight to its wedge shape. This combination has a 20-inch diameter of the front axle and 21-inch diameter of its rear axle. Due to the state-of-the-art forging technology, the cross-spoke Monoblock F BRABUS "PLATINUM EDITION" wheels are manufactured to be light yet robust.

It is available in a brushed, mirror-polished finish or titanium-colored finish. The front is sized 9.5Jx20 while the rear axle is 11Jx21. The tires are supplied by its partners, partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA, and come in sizes of 275/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 21. The low profile tires have sports springs that lower the ride height. By doing this, the GT S is lowered by 0.6 inches or about 15 millimeters.

Interior Design

The cockpit has accessories that have been developed exclusively by interior designers of BRABUS. These include the backlit BRABUS logo that can change color between white are red. Then there are the stainless-steel inserts and carbon scuff plates.

Finally the chrome-plated aluminum pedals are included. These are also available in matte anodized. The interior uses fine leather that has been finished with masterful workmanship. However, be it the GT or GT S, it can still be personalized to match the preference of the owner.

These are choices for Alcantara, leather, and even the colors. BRABUS also allows individual requests especially for the inlays of the center console, dashboard and, of course, door panels.

Carbon and wood trim sets can also be availed depending on color preference and surface finish. This exclusive sports program was presented by BRABUS during the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt.

Since it’s a sports car being modified, one can obviously never have enough when it comes to power. Thus specialists from BRABUS developed a new engine called the PowerXtra B40, a 600 performance kit for the GT S twin-turbo eight-cylinder engine. It has a plug-and-play module that has been tailored to the engine electronics.

A new mapping for the ignition and injection is available that can moderately increases the boost pressure. Once this has been installed, the engine now gives an additional power of 66 kW / 90 HP or 88 bhp while 100 Nm or 74 lb.-ft. of torque has been added.

As expected from BRABUS, this tuned version is compliant with strict emission standards. After the improvements have been done on the GT S, total power output is now 441 kW / 600 HP (591 bhp) at 6,400 rpm. Maximum torque is increased to 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) at 4,800 rpm.

Acceleration is improved as well as letting the GT S go from 0 to 100 km/h, about 62 mph, in 3.6 seconds. With all these improvements, it comes as no surprise that the top speed is increased from 310 km/h (190 mph) to 325 km/h (201 mph).

This performance kit, much like other BRABUS components, is guaranteed by the three-year BRABUS Tuning Warranty, up to 62,000 miles or 100,000 kilometers. For those who want confirmation, there is always the BRABUS Warranty Terms and Conditions which have been updated as of July 2013.

BRABUS discloses that the high-tech lubricants used for its powertrain are currently being supplied by MOTUL, its technology partner. One of the most perfect complements to the upgrade of the engine tuning for the GT or GT S is the quad sports exhaust.

The exhaust is made of lightweight titanium while its four tailpipes come from a mix of carbon and titanium. The result is an exhaust system that optimizes the V8 engine’s power delivery but weighs 40% lighter. Another special feature is the exhaust that has been fitted with butterfly valves that can be electronically controlled from the interior.

There is also a "coming home" sound tuning setting that ensures the exhaust is quieter making it easier to return the car home. Thus this increases the car’s appeal to even the neighbors. Once the valves have been opened, the sound of the eight-cylinder becomes more powerful and sportier.

BRABUS fine leather interiors and inlays made from real carbon and precious wood upgrade the cockpit of the two-door car.

You can never have enough power, especially in a sports car. That is why the BRABUS engine specialists have developed the PowerXtra B40 – 600 performance kit for the eight-cylinder twin-turbo engine of the GT S. A plug-and-play control module is adapted to the engine electronics. It features new mapping for injection and ignition while also moderately increasing the boost pressure. After the installation, the engine puts out an extra 66 kW / 90 HP (88 bhp) and produces 100 Nm (74 lb-ft) of added torque. Of course, the tuned version complies with the same strict emissions standards as the production car.

After the upgrade, the GT S has a rated power output of 441 kW / 600 HP (591 bhp) at 6,400 rpm and a peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) at 4,800 rpm. It sprints from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds. The top speed with BRABUS engine tuning jumps from 310 to 325 km/h (190 to 201 mph).

Like all other BRABUS components, the performance kit for the GT S is backed by the exemplary BRABUS Tuning Warranty® of three years, up to 100,000 kilometers/62,000 miles (see BRABUS Warranty Terms and Conditions, updated July 2013). Technology partner MOTUL supplies the high-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain.

The ideal complement to the engine tuning or an attractive upgrade for all standard GT or GT S models is the BRABUS quad sports exhaust made from extremely lightweight titanium with four tailpipes made from a combination of titanium and carbon. This exhaust system weighs about 40 percent less than the production exhaust and optimizes the power delivery of the V8 engine to boot.

As a special feature, this exhaust is fitted with electronically controlled butterfly valves operated from the cockpit. The standard setting offers a "coming home" sound tuning that is quieter than the production exhaust. It further increases the appeal of the thrilling sports car for the neighbors when it returns home late at night. When the valves are open, the eight-cylinder sounds significantly sportier and more powerful than with the production exhaust.

The material of choice for the BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement components is lightweight yet extremely strong carbon, the same material used in Formula 1 racing. The components were developed in the wind tunnel and lend the GT or GT S version of the sports car a more thrilling design while optimizing the aerodynamics. All bodywork components come with a clear-coated carbon racing-look finish. They are also available with a matte coating and can optionally be painted in vehicle or contrasting color.

The front bumper of the coupe receives a visual upgrade with the BRABUS front spoiler. What is more: at high speeds, lift on the front axle is further reduced, resulting in even more stable handling. The two BRABUS covers for the side air intakes of the bumper lend the two-seater an even more striking face while optimizing the routing of cooling air. Integrated LED side markers optimize active safety.

BRABUS also sharpens the profile of the sports car: the new design air outlets for the front fenders lend the GT S a full-blooded racing touch. They immediately catch the eye due to their integrated BRABUS logotypes that light up in blue when the keyless-entry remote or a door handle are operated. The BRABUS rocker panels give the front-engine sports car an even lower and sleeker visual stance. They also optimize the airflow between the front and rear wheel arches.

The rear receives a more athletic look with the BRABUS rear airfoil and the BRABUS diffuser with tailor-made cutouts for the four tailpipes of the BRABUS sports exhaust system. In addition, these aerodynamic-enhancement components also contribute to optimized handling stability at high speeds.

The forged wheels were custom-developed for the GT and GT S and also play an essential role in the thrilling BRABUS look. The staggered tire/wheel combination with diameters of 20 inches on the front axle and 21 inches at the rear adds further emphasis to the wedge shape of the two-seater.

Thanks to a manufacturing process that uses state-of-the-art forging technology, the BRABUS Monoblock F "PLATINUM EDITION" cross-spoke wheels are extremely light yet especially robust. The wheels are available with a mirror-polished, brushed or titanium-colored finish and come in sizes 9.5Jx20 at the front and 11Jx21 on the rear axle. Technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA supply the extremely wide high-performance tires of sizes 275/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 21.

The BRABUS sports springs are tailored specifically to these low profile tires. They lower the ride height of GT S by about 15 millimeters (.6 inches).

For the cockpit of the sports car, the BRABUS interior designers have developed exclusive accessories such as carbon scuff plates with stainless-steel inserts and a backlit BRABUS logo, whose color changes between red and white, and matte anodized or chrome-plated aluminum pedals. Special BRABUS aluminum paddle shifters in an even more ergonomic position on the steering wheel make even more precise gear changes possible.

The BRABUS upholstery shop creates BRABUS fine leather interiors finished with masterful workmanship for the GT and GT S as well. They can be tailored as precisely to the owner's preferences with regard to the choice of leather, Alcantara and color as the design and the upholstery.

Individual requests can also be fulfilled when it comes to the inlays for the dashboard, center console and door panels. BRABUS manufactures carbon and precious wood trim sets in any desired color and with many different surface finishes.
