Although Mercedes-Benz wanted to be a surprise, it appears that someone ruined firm’s plans and decided to reveal the first photos with the brand new F125 Concept. As expected, Mercedes-Benz will unveil this new concept car at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show and according to our sources the vehicle marks company’s 125th anniversary.

Just like the rival Audi e-Tron, the Mercedes-Benz F125 is powered by four electric motors delivering 231 hp and capable to

push the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds and to a top speed of 220 km/h or 136 mph. What is more interesting is that the motors get their energy from a hydrogen fuel cell stack and according to the manufacturer the total range of the car is 620 miles or 1,000 kilometers.

Using an onboard battery, the car can travel up to 31 miles or almost 50 kilometers, according to OmniAuto. Regarding the design, the car might actually preview future cars from Mercedes-Benz but don’t forget that the car is still a concept and this means that the engineers can dream and dream… and dream….

In celebration of 125 years of automobiles, Mercedes-Benz has launched the Mercedes-Benz F125! This research vehicle represents the German automaker’s revolutionary outlook on the technical aspects of the luxury vehicle of the future.

The Mercedes-Benz F125! research vehicle foretells the trends of the future with its innovative cutting edge concept for big luxury cars.

Mercedes-Benz continues to push for its emission-free vision with the F125! with the use of hydrogen power and by highlighting the potential of hydrogen as a source of energy in the future. The F125! looks ahead to beyond 2025, skipping more than two vehicle generations, instead of the one-generation skip that most of the German automaker’s research vehicles have.

Daimler AG’s board of management member Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber says that with the research car, they wanted to show that big, safe and comfortable saloon cars are compatible with the future, due in part to having no emissions. These cars will use the S-Class because it employs smart solutions and has since taken into consideration the needs of the customers. Prof. Dr. Weber adds that the F125! will have a combination of new ideas and the traditional characteristics of a Mercedes car: safe, comfortable and high performing. Prof. Dr. Weber is responsible for Group Research as well as development research of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Innovative ideas to strengthen the carmaker’s leadership in the luxury vehicle market

The Mercedes-Benz F125! shows the world that even luxury vehicles can run emission free. It also hopes to take the concept of individual mobility into reality. The developers and researchers behind the research car have used the time proven technology and concepts that are still not available but have great potential. This makes the research car not just science fiction and wishful thinking, but also very feasible to be implemented for production.

These Innovations include the further development of the fuel cell drive system that works together with the plug-in technology; a new tank technology that will store the hydrogen fuel; more powerful and lighter batteries that is based on lithium-sulphur technology that the carmaker has been researching together with its current lithium-ion battery, as well as research into lithium-air applications.

These concepts are behind the Mercedes-Benz F125! research vehicle, making it an innovative luxury car that seats four people comfortably, yet remains emission free and powerful. It uses a fuel cell technology that was developed by the carmakers and combines cutting edge and efficient storage, bodyshell, and drive technologies as well as one of a kind display and control concepts.
