The all-new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray can be experienced by fans through the Gran Turismo 5 racing game on their Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation 3 (PS3) system. Since the company was presented to the game in November 2012, almost 500,000 people have driven the camouflaged Corvette prototype.

The Corvette Stingray is the the seventh generation of the legendary sports car. This authentic driving experience was made possible by the collaboration between Chevrolet and Polyphony Digital Inc., the developers of the Gran Turismo franchise. Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing, said that a “thrilling experience” is what awaits those who drive the all-new Corvette Stingray, which is the most powerful and sophisticated standard Corvette ever.

Due to this team-up with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet can give performance car enthusiasts the opportunity to have an exclusive driving experience the day after the global debut of the Corvette Stingray.

When designing the virtual Corvette Stingray, close attention was paid to the most particular details of the new design, inside as well as outside. They were also meticulous about the performance driving characteristics, even into the shift schedule for the seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching.

The Corvette Stingray has an output of around 450hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. It can sprint from zero to 60mph in less than four seconds and will attain over 1g in cornering grip. In addition, it would be the most fuel-efficient Corvette ever and is likely to surpass the EPA-estimated 26 mpg of the existing model.

Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital Inc., said that the Polyphony team has had an “unforgettable experience” in learning about the Corvette Stingray and bringing it into Gran Turismo 5. Yamauchi added that the company is “excited” to share the experience with fans and let them feel, explore and drive the Corvette in a way that became only possible now.

Chevrolet has officially unveiled the new Corvette C7 Stingray, with the company setting out to redefine what modern performance is. By far this Corvette has that excellent mix of performance, technology, and design. This is why this is the sole Corvette to have the iconic Stingray badge. In addition, the brand revealed that the 2014 Corvette Stingray is projected to become the most powerful model there is. Power is estimated to be 450 hp (335 kW) with peak torque of 450 lb.-ft. (610 Nm).

Capability is also one of the best as it can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds. Cornering grip meanwhile is expected to reach at least 1g. With EPA-estimated rating better by 26 mpg compared to the prior model, this will also be the most fuel-efficient Corvette. Compared to the prior generation, the new Corvette C7 Stingray has only two parts that are the same. Almost everything is new like the frame structure and the chassis. New as well is the powertrain and its supporting technologies.

That said, the design of the interior and exterior are new as well. The new model is powered with the LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine which includes a number of innovative technologies like Active Fuel Management, continuously variable valve timing, and direct injection. By putting in a cutting-edge combustion system, the Corvette C7 Stingray is able to get added power while ensuring that less fuel is used.

New as well are the advanced driver technologies fitted inside. Example is the Drive Model Selector which offers five positions and is able to adapt to the 12 qualities of the vehicle and thus fit the environment of the driver. There is also the manual seven-speed transmission and with the Active Rev Matching helps anticipate any of the gear selections and thus complements the engine speed to allow for that perfect shift. New to the interior are materials that use hand-wrapped leather, aluminum, and genuine carbon fiber.

Two choices for the seat are offered with each one having a lightweight frame made of magnesium to provide for that remarkable support. Another new feature is the dual 8-inch driver/infotainment screens which itself can be configured easily. For the exterior, the use of lightweight materials is evident like the removable roof panel and the carbon fiber hood.

It is also used in the doors, quarter panels in the rear, and the composite fenders. The underbody panels meanwhile utilize a carbon-nano composite. Having a frame made of aluminum means that the weight is shift more towards the rear allowing for a 50/50 optimal weight balance. This leads to that first-rate power-to-weight ratio.

General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said that similar to the ’63 Sting Ray, the greatest of Corvettes symbolize stunning design, advanced technologies, performance leadership, and amazing driving experience. He added that the new models are able to go further than the previous generations and this is possible due to the advances made in engineering, technology, and design.
