Lexus officially launched the brand new CT 200h hybrid hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show. The CT 200h hybrid hatchback will start production in late 2010. The new car is based on the LF-Ch Concept unveiled back in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In addition, the new car is obviously inspired by Lexus' L-finesse design philosophy with a distinctive, sharp-edged look that makes it stand out from its premium compact rivals.
Superior ergonomics with extensive use of metallic finishes and dark, soft-touch surfaces are apparent on the interior. Don't be fooled by its size. The new CT 200h offers a spacious interior due to the 2,600mm wheelbase, which allows for a roomier front and rear passenger accommodation.
Luggage capacity is at 345 liters but with the rear seats lowered, it could go up to 700 liters. The car is equipped with the Lexus Hybrid Drive system that combines a 1.8-liter VVT-i petrol engine with a powerful electric motor.
Four selectable drive modes are available -- ECO and NORMAL are focused on providing efficiency and comfort; SPORT emphasizes dynamic performance; and the EV mode which makes the car into an ultra-quiet electric vehicle with zero fuel consumption and CO2.
In the EV mode, the car has a range of up to 1.2 miles with a maximum speed of 28mph. The CT 200h is built on a new platform with a dedicated double wishbone. It also has a trailing arm rear suspension system created specifically to combine ride comfort expected of a Lexus with superior driving involvement and handling agility.
