2010 Geneva Motor Show: RUF RGT-8

At the Geneva Motor Show, the tuning specialists at RUF have created their own version of the Porsche 911 with the RGT-8. What's unusual is that the RGT8 doesn't use a Porsche powerplant or a 911 Turbo engine.

Instead, the car is fitted with an in-house developed V8 unit. The 4.5-liter engine has a compact design and offers 550 HP at 8,500 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 5,400 rpm.

With this innovative design, the car weighs less than 200 kg. RUF gave the car a dry-sump lubrication system that is effective under all driving conditions.  The V8 is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that has shortened shift movements and sends the power to the rear wheels.

The supercar is given a set of 19-inch RUF forged wheels that have a single central retaining nut and are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. To provide sufficient stopping power, the supercar uses a ceramic braking system that works under any condition and is fade-free. The V8-equipped 911 uses a bespoke front fascia and new front fenders.

RUF says that this car is inspired by the 550 Coupe that won the 1953 Le Mans race. The front hood and doors are made of aluminum and its engine hood and rear spoiler are made from carbonfiber.

On the car's interior, we see new sport seats and a full roll cage that enhances the car's rigidity and offers a high level of safety. Furthermore, the dashboard has been fitted with new components.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo comes with a number of distinctive features, one of which is the front apron with large cooling air intakes and bar-shaped LED direction indicators. Furthermore, the new Porsche 911 Turbo has titanium-colored louvers in the side air intakes, with the conventional foglamps now replaced by LED daytime driving lights.

Meanwhile, the new Porsche 911 Turbo could be availed with the optional dynamic bending lights, which are designed to enhance illumination of road. This is achieved by having the headlight module follow the course of the road, as done by swiveling in their angle up to 15 degrees. This double-lens projection system boasts of a sophisticated design that convincingly expresses the stunning and progressive character of the new 911 Turbo.

On the other hand, the newly designed double-arm exterior mirrors could deliver a better rear-end view while providing optimized aerodynamics. Furthermore, its mirror glass is now better protected from dirt.

As standard, new Porsche 911 Turbo rides on 19-inch Turbo II wheels in forged technology and twin-tone looks. On the rear section, the 911 Turbo looks more powerful and muscular, thanks to its larger tailpipes, newly designed LED rear lights and the classic split wing.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo is also provided with a new generation of steering wheels, with those with manual transmission specified with a new three-spoke sports steering wheel with a modified design. Meanwhile, 911 Turbo models equipped with the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) could now be specified with a new, optional three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles.
