Kia released today the first photos with the next-generation Picanto city car, which will be officially unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Set to make its debut on the market in 2012, the new car follows the same design philosophy as the new vehicles from the Korean manufacturer, showing a bolder, more mature and more self confident look.
According to Kia, the 2012 Picanto was completely redesigned and re-engineered, and promises to redefine its position as one of the most competitive vehicles in its segment.
As you may know already, the current Picanto model is available only as a five-door hatchback, but things will change as the new generation will be offered as a five-door globally but a sportier three-door body style will also be made available in the United Kingdom and the European markets.
Under the hood we will find four new engines in 1.0- and 1.2-litre displacements. Moreover, the 2012 Kia Picanto will be available in LPG, bi-fuel and flex-fuel variations, depending on the local markets requirements.
Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, said, “In profile, new Picanto features significant sculpting and a very prominent rising character line. The result is a layering of light and shadow and this breaks up the height, giving the car a more sure-footed stance.”
