2015 Subaru WRX STI makes European debut in Geneva

Article by Anita Panait, on March 11, 2014

Subaru has unveiled the new Subaru WRX STI sports saloon to the European audience at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show. Subaru will start selling the Subaru WRX STI in the United Kingdom in May 1, 2014, and has already reserved first allocation of cars already, an indication of early demand. Subaru UK is urging interested buyers to register early if want to have their units delivered by September.

The latest-generation Subaru WRX STI is set to return to the UK a year after its predecessor was pull out from the market. It will have a starting from of £28,995. The new Subaru WRX STI features modifications and enhancements to its body, chassis, interior and packaging of the new STI. It also features an all new exterior, and Subaru has significantly stiffened its body and chassis to improve torsional rigidity.

It boasts of the latest iteration of Subaru’s Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) with Active Torque Vectoring, enabling maximum control and driver engagement.

Its suspension is performance-tuned for a flat but comfortable ride. Subaru also paid attention to the new hydraulic steering system, that employs a quicker ratio and stiffer steering rack.  The insides of the new WRX STI features soft touch materials in key areas, with new STI dials and carbon-effect and metal trim employed for a sporty feel and higher quality ambience.

The driver also could get his hand on a new, smaller-diameter D-shaped steering wheel that boasts of better feel. The new WRX STI is also roomier thanks to a 25mm increase in wheelbase. Likewise, the cabin also boasts of more shoulder and elbow room. Subaru also increase the cargo capacity in the boot is by 40 liters. The new WRX STI is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged version of the four-cylinder Boxer engine providing 300PS at 6,000rpm and 407Nm toque at 4,000rpm.

A more daring design for the front creates a look for the 2015 WRX STI like it is all set to consume the road. The nosecone set up integrates the grille and bumper cap into a single unit in front of the hood, which, for the 2015 version, is constructed of aluminium to lessen the weight in the front of the vehicle. More tapered headlights, styled to call to mind the stare of a raptor, skirt the Subaru hexagon grille. The look is even more aggressive with the all-new LED low-beams that come standard as headlights.

The exceptional design of the hood, fenders, doors, quarters, bumpers, and head and taillight clusters express Subaru’s WRX STI personality. As with prior WRX STI models, a practical bonnet scoop provides the intercooler with fresh air, and with the 2015 model, it is more deeply recessed into the bonnet to offer better visibility in front.

Additional new performance features include fog light case with a carbon fibre-like array and front fender vents featuring meshed screens. A fully streamlined body configuration comes with a big trunk spoiler that has been a signature detail of the WRX STI. A rear diffuser, LED tail lamps, and LED centre high-mount stop lamp (CHMSL) create a distinct design.

New, Firmer Chassis for Better Control and Agility

The 2015 WRX STI’s body framework has a better application of high-tensile steel than the prior version and has special strengthening components at significant spots. The stronger chassis assists in yielding an extremely fast steering reaction that’s comparable to that of top sports cars. The 13.0:1 ratio for steering gives a fast 2.5 turns lock-to-lock as opposed to 14.5:1 and 2.8 for the standard WRX.
