Facelifted FIAT 500S - with new looks and tech - debuts at 2016 Geneva Motor Show

Article by Christian A., on March 2, 2016

FIAT 500S made its official worldwide introduction during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. This comes just months after the UK launch of the FIAT 500 back in September. The FIAT 500S, unlike the FIAT 500, has a rear spoiler, special side skirts, and sports bumpers.

Meanwhile, the door handles and the tailgate have the “Satin Graphite” finish. This same finish is also present in the mirror fairings, “moustache”, and the alloy 15-inch wheels. The company is offering as an option the new 16-inch wheels that have a matt diamond black treatment.

The chrome-finished exhaust tailpipe, the rear privacy glass, and bold rear grille form part of the exterior. Rounding up the features of the exterior are the two body colors of Electronica Blue or the new matt Green. The interior meanwhile has the seats and roof lining in black.

Contrasting this are the seat edges and the door panels that have been finished in white, yellow, or blue. The “Satin Graphite” on the exterior is also on the interior especially on the details of the dashboard fascia and the sports steering wheel. For that extra feel of luxury, the interior can have the optional Frau leather trim with the light blue or white details. Coming in as standard in the FIAT 500S is the TFT instrument display with full color and reconfigurable settings.

The brand’s 7-inch HD Uconnect LIVE touchscreen is integrated into its dashboard. It has a high resolution display and offers tablet-like controls. There is also a wide-range of functions that include Bluetooth hands-free system, Uconnect LIVE services, and voice recognition. It even has a host of music playback options that include USB connection, Bluetooth streaming, FM/AM radio, DAB digital, and 3.5 mm auxiliary jack.

Fiat hopes to make the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard features later this year. The system will also have the 3D TomTom navigation system. The FIAT 500S will debut the BeatsAudio sound system which was made in partnership with Beats by Dr. Dre. It has a seven-speaker system with a 440-watt total output. This sound system also has a digital amplifier integrated with the advanced equalisation algorithm.

With this feature, it makes it possible to recreate the range of sound that every artist experiences when doing a studio recording. The BeatsAudio sound system will be made available on all of the models later this year. In partnership with the Style Centre, the Mopar Store will feature a new collection with new designs specifically for the 500.

These include bags with exclusive patterns and made using technical fabrics and the sweatshirts with the built-in earphones. It will also feature an integrated Power Bank, allowing media devices to be recharged. Sales in the UK for the FIAT 500S will start in the summer with the pricing and the final specification to be released near the official launch date.
