ABT presents kit for Audi R8 V10 adds 20 hp, tweaks interior and suspension

Article by Christian A., on March 4, 2017

The Audi R8 V10 may have been inspired by the Lamborghini Gallardo but one common observation among people is that it does not offer much when it comes to style. As a way of addressing this and to offer something more to those who want a more athletic look, ABT Sportsline is offering a specific package just for that.

Known around the world for tuning models from Audi, the company is coming out with the ABT R8 V10 Plus. The package is not just about appearance as ABT also put in some upgrades to the suspension, lowered some of the weight, and even modified some features of the interior.

Both the skirts in the front and the rear are now closer to the road. The front lip is complemented by the blades on the front, rear, and sides, and this helps enhance the aerodynamics. There are also wheel arch vents which not only add to the design but contribute an important function as well. To match the sportier look, ABT is offering the customers the option to choose between two wheels.

The first is the forged ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE ER-F 19-inch wheels that come in “black magic” with the second set getting the forged ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE GR 20-inch wheels that are in “anodized black.” As mentioned earlier, ABT has managed to lower the weight and while the company does not say where exactly, it claims a weight reduction of about 110 pounds.

On the inside, one big change benefits the driver. Even before actually sitting, the driver is immediately greeted with entrance lighting. Once seated, the driver will instantly feel comfortable especially with the high-quality floor mats that come with the ABT logo.

Aside from these, two improvements are evident on the interior. It is clear that the company used ABT Individual leather as its elegance is truly excellent. However, the company also combined this with the ABT Individual carbon and gave it an athletic appearance. Of course, the use of fine composite materials is just as apparent.

It does not stop there as the ABT package manages to make sure that the airflow to the engine would be optimized by using the TÜV-tested exhaust system, in stainless steel, and having the carbon double tailpipe trims. Further by having an open rear panel made of carbon, the temperature in the engine compartment is optimized while enhancing the visuals of the rear view.

Its most interesting effect would be that while the base R8 was able to offer 610 hp (463 kW), the changes made by ABT resulted in the addition of 20 hp without the need to compromise the durability of its engine.

Managing Director Hans-Jürgen Abt shares that ABT has managed to enhance further the model’s already exceptional road holding. He explains that with the package, the company did not only want to enhance the design but also made sure to improve the performance.

The ABT R8 - making rare things unique

For customers who think that even an Audi R8 V10 plus does not look athletic enough,
ABT Sportsline offers a wide range of accessories which can further sharpen the appearance of the supercar. Front and rear skirts move the ABT R8 even closer to the road visually. The matching front lip and the front, side and rear blades refine the aerodynamics of the German sports car even further. The wheel arch vents in racing design complete the package functionally. Naturally, the wheels will have to match the sporty look of the body. ABT Sportsline therefore offers the forged 19 inch ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE ER-F wheels in the color “black magic” and the new 20 inch ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE GR forged wheels in “anodized black”.

The Audi R8 already comes with an ample 610 hp/463 kW as a standard. ABT Sportsline, the worldwide leading tuning company for Audi models and vehicles from the VW Group, still succeeded in luring another 20 horsepower from the supercar engine without jeopardizing its durability. This was made possible by optimizing airflow and using a special, TÜV-tested stainless steel exhaust system with carbon double tailpipe trims. An open carbon rear panel optimizes the temperature in the engine compartment while visually adding to the rear view. But following the motto “power is nothing without control”, the suspension can also be adapted. “We have managed to improve the already excellent roadholding even further,” Hans-Jürgen Abt, Managing Director of the German company, states. This was made possible by lowering the center of gravity of the vehicle using coilover suspension springs and precisely adapted sports stabilizers on front and rear axle as well as a weight reduction by 50 kilograms.

The most important place in a sportscar will always be the space behind the wheel. Even before the driver has taken their seat, the ABT R8 greets them with exclusive ABT entrance lighting. When seated, feet rest on high quality floor mats with the ABT logo and the gaze is drawn to the two finishing upgrades to the interior: the elegant ABT Individual leather interior combined with the sporty look of the ABT Individual carbon interior with the fine composite material visibly installed. “The visual upgrade is just as important to us as improving performance,” Hans-Jürgen Abt explains.
