AC Schnitzer to present modified BMW i8 at 2017 Geneva Motor Show

Article by Christian A., on March 6, 2017

Given how it has been shaped, it is not surprising that many people will imagine that the BMW i8 has somehow been brought in from the future. With that in mind, AC Schnitzer worked on making sure that this sporty coupe stands out even more.

To make this happen, the company installed a number of carbon fiber components on the i8. On the front section for example, the add-on placed on the bumper gives it a much more aggressive look. This is then enhanced by putting in mounting on the bumper’s sides while the wings that have been dipped in carbon fiber.

Since carbon fiber is a lightweight material, the company made sure to fully utilize this not only on the side skirts but also on the door handles and the mirror caps. Rounding off the carbon fiber treatment on the exterior in the rear section are the three-piece diffuser and the fixed wing.

At the core of its sporty looks is the lowering of its suspension by 1 inch (25 mm) on the front with the rear being lowered by 0.8 inches (20 mm).

On the bottom portion, the company decided not to go for the standard wheels equipped on the i8 and instead offered customized versions. The front wheels measure 20 inches and are fitted with the 245/35 R21 tires while the rear wheels are the 21-inch types with the 285/30 R21 tires. The company is offering customers the chance to choose the colors for the wheels. Further, it is not simply about visuals but practicality as well as it lowers the weight by 9.7 pounds (4.4 kilograms).

Completing the package are the AC Schnitzer logos on the outside plus the Inferno Red Chrome color on the body.

While the exterior is indeed excellent, the company has yet to reveal how the inside looks though.

AC Schnitzer guarantees there are a number of interesting features like the velour floor mats, aluminum foot rest, and the aluminum pedal set, to name a few.

The AC Schnitzer variant of the BMW i8 will be on display during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show starting March 7. In addition to this version, BMW also revealed it will be displaying the i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition and the i8 Protonic Frozen Black Edition. BMW also said that it may release a modified version during the latter part of the year and since it will use a larger battery, customers can expect an increase in the power as well as that of the range.

Based in Aachen, Germany, AC Schnitzer is a tuning company that specializes in MINI and BMW cars, as well as BMW motorcycles. While founded in 1967, AC Schnitzer was officially established as a tuning company in 1987. Though it traces its roots to Schnitzer Motorsport, the latter is now a different entity together. AC Schnitzer is under the Kohl Group.
