The super version of the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) 003 has finally arrived. This carbon fiber version is dubbed as the SCG 003S and comes in a white finish with carbon fiber accents. For those familiar with this series, the 003S follows the 003C. So what’s the difference? For one, the C stands for competizione, which clearly means competition or racing. Meanwhile, the S refers to stradale or road-going. Simply put, the 003S is designed to be a road-going model.
That’s not all as under its hood is the bi-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that is capable of delivering 800 hp (596 kW) with peak torque measured at 627 lb.-ft. (850 Nm). This is then channeled to the road using the race-spec7-speed sequential gearbox. Moreover, its Dunlop tires measure 265/35R-20s on the front while the rear is sized 325/30-21.
Despite designing this model to be a road-going vehicle, SCG revealed that aerodynamics has been optimized. As such, when running at 155 mph (249 km/h), the 003S can create downforce as large as 1,550 lbs. (703 kg). In addition, when cornering, it can deliver at least 2.5 lateral Gs.
So just how powerful is the 003S then? Given the previous figures plus the fact that it is expected to weigh not more than 3,000 lbs. (1,360 kg), maximum speed is pegged at 217 mph (349 km/h) with acceleration from standstill to 60 mph (96 km/h) possible in shorter than 3 seconds. For comparison, the Huracan Performante from Lamborghini has a Nurburgring lap time of 6:52.01. For the 003S, that same lap takes 6:30, that’s a difference of more than 20 seconds.
With all that performance under the hood, SCG says that the 003S will weigh less than 3,000 pounds (1,360 kilograms) and have a top speed of 217 mph (349 kmh), as well as a sub-three-second zero to 60 time (96 kmh). The company hopes that it will be able to beat the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s 6:52.01 Nurburgring lap time by more than 20 seconds with a time of around 6:30.
However, SCG has yet to reveal when the 003S will be made available for sale and what will be its price. There are stories going around though that it could as high as $1 million, or maybe even more than that. At the present, SCG is still looking for ways on how to fund this supercar and the company is said to be in talks with groups that could provide the needed capital. Currently, the prototypes are being made at Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT).
