It looks like Aston Martin will soon be following up its Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro offerings with a third hypercar. This comes as Aston Martin presented the design concept for the new AM-RB 003 at the 2019 Geneva Motor Showin Switzerland.
Its terms of styling and aerodynamics, the new AM-RB 003 shares the same fundamental philosophy with the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This is evident on the pronounced front keel and large rear diffuser. In addition, the AM-RB 003 features a variable airfoil that spans across the rear wing. This variable airfoil is made possible by a new technology from FlexSys Inc. – FlexFoil.
With this new system in place, the downforce AM-RB 003 can be changed without changing the physical angle of the entire element. This new system also virtually gets rid of the turbulence and the associated drag increase in present active wing designs.
Previously known as Project 003, the AM-RB 003 could be a more refined and more tamed version of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. The British carmaker admits that it has made greater concessions to practicality, usability, comfort and road use for the new AM-RB 003. This would make the AM-RB 003 more ready for the real world more than its more hardcore older siblings.
For instance, the AM-RB 003 boasts of a larger cockpit than a Valkyrie. In addition, the AM-RB 003 features LMP1-style doors that open forwards while taking a section of roof, thereby making it easier for occupants to enter or exit the hypercar. In addition, designers sought to increase the space between driver and passenger, and this was achieved by widening the center console. Moreover, occupants would appreciate the presence of a luggage space through a terrace behind the seats. Furthermore, the AM-RB 003 features stowage areas for small things such as you mobile phone.
Aston Martin disclosed that just like the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro, the AM-RB 003 will be taking advantage of the marque’s collaboration of Red Bull Advanced Technologies, especially in its design and engineering. In fact, the AM-RB 003 will be incorporating concepts and technologies derived from F1TM and already implemented on the Aston Martin Valkyrie.
As per Aston Martin, the new AM-RB 003 will be built in larger numbers than its siblings. That could be because the AM-RB 003 would be less hardcore than the Aston Martin Valkyrie and the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro. Nonetheless, the British marque placed a limit on how many production version of the AM-RB 003 would be built. Aston Martin says that it is planning to build only 500 examples of the AM-RB 003 around the world.
