Audi has officially released images of its new A6 sedan. While this eight-generation sedan was scheduled to make an appearance at this year's 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the brand was forced to release photos and information after images were leaked to the internet. This makes the new A6 (C8) official as it prepares to join the A7 and the A8.
Under the hood, the new A6 shows that it has the same maneuverability as a compact while also having the handling of a sports car. The redesigned suspensions means the use of aluminum in a number of areas and aids in ride quality even when getting the optional 21-inch wheels fitted with the low-profile tires. For many owners, this mix is rarely seen as something that offers comfort.
While the new version and the previous one may appear to be similar, a closer look reveals some differences. In terms of dimensions, the changes are really minute. The new A6 is longer by 0.3 inches, wider by 0.5 inches, and taller by 0.1 inch. However the front fascia is now more pronounced and combined with the wide singleframe grille, giving it a look much like that of the A7.
Looked at on the side, there appears to be no changes. A closer inspection however shows that just above the wheels and near the beltline, there are sharp body line contours. This particular feature is what differentiates the new model from the previous generation. On the rear section though, the differences are much easier to see. There is the resculptured deck lid, as well as the rear fascia, both of which are highlighted by a chrome strip. This same strip divides the tail lights after which it goes across the vehicle's entire length. A total of four colors for the exterior will be available for 2019, seven of which are new.
Going to the inside, the changes are much more apparent. The best way to describe it is that the new A6 is now more digital. There is for instance the 9.6-inch display that can be used to manage not only the climate control function but also other convenience features of the model. On top of this is an MMI infotainment screen with a 10.1-inch display, the same as that of the A7. Behind the steering wheel is a virtual cockpit that comes with a 12.-3-inch display. Passengers will find that the interior offers more space, particularly with the head room and the shoulder room for both front and rear. Cargo space in the trunk has been increased as well.
Since the new A6 is more digital than ever, it has a number of features not seen in the prior model. The MMI navigation for example comes with a self-learning function that is based on what route has been driven. The system then offers intelligent search selection even while driving. Having the Audi connect online services means that the driver can get traffic hazard information by connecting with the infrastructure. Customers who want driver assistance can have the Park Assist Package. This comes with five cameras, five radar sensors, a total of 12 ultrasonic sensors, and even a laser scanner. The package has both Parking Pilot and Garage Pilot. These two maneuver the A6 immediately in and out of parking spaces, as well as garages, even when no person is inside.
