It is finally here, a new offering from Automobili Lamborghini that combines the thrill of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (Superveloce Jota) and the joy of an open-air drive. After unveiling the coupe version last year in the California, the carmaker has taken the wraps off the new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
It was August 2018 when Automobili Lamborghini unveiled the V12-powered Lamborghini Aventador SVJ in Pebble Beach, California. A week after, speculations suddenly appeared that a roadster version would be coming after the California Air Resources Board (CARB) issued an executive order that certified four Lamborghini Aventador models: S Coupe, S Roadster, SVJ Coupe, and SVJ Roadster. Since, we have been waiting for Lamborghini to formally unveil the Aventador SVJ Roadster. Now, the newest Aventador can be seen in metal in Geneva.
Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, remarked that the new Aventador SVJ Roadster essentially inherits all the power, performance and innovative aerodynamic technologies of the coupe version but with an added exclusivity of driving in the open air. He added that Aventador SVJ Roadster offers the same extraordinary performance with roof on or off.
Differentiating the Aventador SVJ Coupe from the Aventador SVJ Roadster is the fact that the latter has no fixed roof. The roadster features a roof constructed from high pressure RTM carbon fiber. This roof weighs less than 6 kg each part, allowing the Roadster to be just 50 heavier that the SVJ Coupe. The roof can be removed through quick-release levers in the cabin, and then stored under the front hood.
The superb performance of the new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster comes courtesy of the carmaker’s most powerful V12 engine so far. This mill is able to deliver 770 hp (566 kW) of max motive power at 8,500 rpm as well as 720 Nm of torque available at 6,750 rpm. This basically means that the new Aventador SVJ Roadster boasts of a weight-to-power ratio of 2.05 kg/hp. With these stats, the SVJ Roadster can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds or from nil to 200 km/h in 8.8 seconds. While the Aventador SVJ Roadster can speed up to more than 350 km/h, it can fully brake from 100 km/h to a full stop in just 31 meters.
Supporting this dynamics is latest 2.0 version of the carmaker’s patented active aerodynamics system Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA). Employing electronically actuated motors positioned in the front splitter and the rear wing, ALA actively varies aerodynamic load to allow for high downforce or low drag according to the current dynamic conditions.
Lamborghini will be building only 800 units of the Aventador SVJ Roadster, with the first deliveries set to occur in summer 2019. Suggested retail prices for the new Aventador SVJ Roadster is EUR387,007 (taxes excluded) in Europe; GBP323,323 (taxes excluded) in the United Kingdom; US573,966 (GGT excluded) in the United States; RMB 8,296,758 (suggested retail price taxes included); and JPY57,143,135 (taxes excluded) in Japan.
