When Mercedes-Benz gave the regular C-Class models a soft update for the 2019 model year, it was already expected that it would do the same to the high-performance C-Class units. Now, the Mercedes-AMG C43 is getting a soft update – both in terms of looks and power – when it arrives as a 2019 model year.
Offered in Saloon and Estate variants, the new Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC is considered as the entry-level high-performance C-Class model. Thus, it is only logical that it receives certain updates. For starters, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC Saloon and Estate are provided with new distinguishing visual elements like the AMG radiator grille with twin louver in matt iridium silver, as well as the dynamically sculpted front apron with extra flics. The front apron features side air curtains that help channels front airstream. The trim details on the front splitter as well as the cross fin attachment now don a silver chrome finish.
On the rear end, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC Saloon and Estate now feature a pair of round (instead of angular) twin tailpipe trim elements as finished high-gloss chrome. The rear end is also defined by a rear apron with side air curtain appearance, a more expressive diffuser as well as body-colored spoiler lip on the boot lid.
Customers could make their C 43 4MATIC units more aggressive and sportier by availing of the optional AMG styling package that includes a more expressive front splitter, the standard-fit spoiler lip and broader side skirt inserts as well as flics in the rear bumper – all donning a high-gloss black finish.
The new C 43 4MATIC rides, as standard, on 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels with five twin spokes in tremolite grey with a high-sheen finish as shod in wide tires. The new C 43 4MATIC is optionally available with 19-inch AMG light-alloy rims five twin spokes in tantalite grey, high-gloss black or matt black. Both AMG light-alloy wheels are aerodynamically optimized and are made more expressive by the sporty side skirts.
Meanwhile, AMG development engineers worked hard to upgrade the output of the 3.0-liter V6 engine. This mill now delivers 17 kW (23 hp) more output to 287 kW (390 hp), with the peak torque remaining at 520 Nm (384 lb.-ft.) as available between 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. With this amount of power, the new C 43 4MATIC Saloon could sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, while the Estate could achieve the same in 4.8 seconds. Both variants of the C 43 4MATIC have an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Inside, the new C 43 4MATIC Saloon and Estate employ sporty materials like leather, DINAMICA microfibre and aluminum to underline their high-quality interior finish. For those who want a sportier cabin, optional AMG Performance seats are available.
In addition, the new C 43 4MATIC Saloon and Estate are equipped with a new AMG steering wheel in nappa leather, featuring a flattened bottom section and a perforated grip area. Its galvanised steering wheel gearshift paddles are also optionally available in nappa leather / DINAMICA microfibre or in nappa leather with trim in black piano lacquer.
The new C 43 4MATIC also features new built-in Touch Control buttons that allow a driver to control the functions of the instrument cluster and the multimedia system through the swiping movements of the finger. An optional, fully digital instrument cluster with 31.2 cm (12.3-inch) screen offers three AMG-specific display styles: Classic, Sport or Supersport.
The 2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 is making its global debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It is expected to arrive in the United States in late 2018.
