Customers seeking a hardcore version of the Volkswagen T-Roc can finally flash a smile. This comes after the German carmaker unveiled a performance version of the high-riding crossover at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show – the all-new Volkswagen T-Roc R. Sales of the new T-Roc are expected to commence by the end of the year.
The all-new Volkswagen T-Roc R was developed by Volkswagen R, a wholly owned independent subsidiary of VW. The carmaker has been using the letter R – indicating its link to motor sports -- since the Golf R32. Now, the T-Roc R is privilege to have inherited the letter, making it the first crossover since the Touareg R50 to bear the initial.
To indicate the performance potential of the new Volkswagen T-Roc R, it features a specially redesigned radiator grille with a polished silver anodized aluminum band on the underside. The radiator grille also bears the “R” logo while the bumper boasts of a sporty design as finished in the vehicle color. Integrated into the front bumper are vertically arranged daytime running lights,
The VW T-Roc R rides on 18-inch Spielberg alloy wheels, as standard, although 19-inch Pretoria dark graphite matt alloy 235/40 R19 wheels are optionally available. On the rear, the T-Roc R is provided with an “R” diffuser in a contrasting color as well as double-ended exhaust system on both the left and right.
As for the exterior finish, the new T-Roc R model can be wrapped in colors such as Deep Black Pearl Effect, Energetic Orange Metallic, Flash Red Uni, Indium Grey Metallic, Lapiz Blue Metallic, Pure White Uni, Turmeric Yellow Metallic and White Silver Metallic. The roof can be finished in black.
Inside, the new VW T-Roc R features white ambient lighting, Shadow Steel “R” decoration ,stainless steel sill panel trims with the “R” logo, a special leather multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle levers as well as pedals in stainless steel.
Of course, the Volkswagen T-Roc R wouldn’t be an R sans any performance credentials. It is served by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI engine that can deliver a max output of 221 kW (300 PS) as well as a peak torque of 400 Nm. Featuring 4MOTION all-wheel drive and a standard seven-gear DSG dual-clutch gearbox, the T-Roc R can sprint from nil to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
This power is complemented a sports running gear with lowered suspension, progressive steering, a 17-inch brake system, a launch control feature, as well as Electronic Stability Control that can be manually switched off.
