Beating heart of Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge is a twin-turbo V6 Nissan GT-R engine

If you liked the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Concept we have great news for new: the Japanese carmaker has just announced what engine is powering the red rocket! Ready? The new Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept will be powered by a 3799cc, V6 gasoline engine, making this vehicle the most powerful and exciting Infiniti model to date.

This 24-valve, twin-turbocharged engine, complemented by a full-time all-wheel drive system, features a 50/50 front-to-rear torque split.

With this engine, the Q50 Eau Rouge is expected to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds and achieve a top speed of nearly 180mph – placing the powerful concept among the world’s premium super-sports sedans.

While the new Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept has yet to be confirmed for production, the unveiling of the newest version of the Q50 Eau Rouge in Geneva points to the fact that Infiniti is determined to create engaging performance cars for a premium segment.

Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited, remarked that after receiving extremely positive feedback on the Q50 Eau Rouge at the Detroit Auto Show, the marque decided to engineer this “powerful heart into our blood-red beast."

He said that a car with pronounced styling treatments like the Q50 Eau Rouge demands the best high-performance powertrains, leading the carmaker to employ V6 twin-turbocharged, 7-speed combination.

The bad news is that the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept has not been confirmed for production but the feedback received from the 2014 Geneva Motor Show might bring a new high-performance Infiniti on the market that could take on cars such as the Audi RS6 or the BMW M5.

The new Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge essentially combines the aggressive design cues of the Q50 premium sports sedan and the spirit of Formula One. Lower and wider than the typical Q50, the Q50 Eau Rouge is fitted with bespoke aerodynamic carbon fiber bodywork. Its overall design is heavily influenced by aerodynamics, refinement, understated power and muscularity.

Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited, remarked that if the Q50 Eau Rouge goes into production, it would be powered by an engine that delivers more than 500 hp of max output and over 600lb.-ft. of peak torque. He noted that Infiniti was able to access a number of engines that have this capability, thanks to various alliance partners.

He noted that the lucky engine would be developed to convey Infiniti character once placed inside the engine bay of the Q50. He revealed that the engine being evaluated for the Q50 Eau Rouge is the V-cylinder engine with forced induction.

The new Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge comes with a number of components derived from the highly successful RB9 race car, highlighting its Formula One origin. Interestingly, nearly all the car’s exterior panel is bespoke. In fact, only the front doors and the arch of the roof pillars have been retained from Q50 as standard features.

When viewed up front, the new Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge offers an aggressive and menacing face. On the sides, its stance has been extended by 20 mm by employing new front and rear fenders. The rear end, meanwhile, is marked by a larger deck lid spoiler. The Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge is finished in customized red paint.

Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge roars into life – 560hp engine revealed

Infiniti has boosted excitement in the high-performance premium sports sedan segment at the 2014 Geneva International Motor Show by revealing a powerful engine for the Q50 Eau Rouge concept. The beating heart of the Eau Rouge, a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-litre V6 gasoline engine, was revealed on the Infiniti show stand today.

The Q50 Eau Rouge – a high-performance concepts car based on the premium manufacturer's award-winning Q50 sports sedan – was first revealed at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January as a Formula One inspired, carbon fibre aero-enhanced concept. Q50 Eau Rouge now tells a compelling power story with a full 560hp and 600Nm of torque on demand.

"Building on the extremely positive feedback on the Q50 Eau Rouge at its recent Detroit Auto Show launch, we decided to further whet the appetite of performance sports sedan fans by engineering this powerful heart into our blood-red beast," said Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited.

"A car with such pronounced styling treatments demands the very best in terms of high-performance powertrains, which is why we installed this V6 twin-turbocharged, 7-speed combination as an example of what a potential powertrain for the Q50 Eau Rouge may look and sound like."

The 3799cc, V6, 24-valve, twin-turbocharged gasoline engine partners a full-time, all-wheel drive system with 50/50 front-to-rear torque split. Predicted acceleration of 60mph in less than four seconds and a top speed close to 180mph would put the Q50 Eau Rouge firmly into the premier league of super-sports sedans.

The most powerful and exhilarating gasoline-powered Infiniti model has not been confirmed for production, but the unveiling of the latest iteration of the Q50 Eau Rouge in Geneva underlines the company's determination to create engaging performance cars for a premium segment.
