According to the latest media reports, it appears that Bmw is preparing a small open-top sports car concept for this year’s Geneva Motor Show. This means that all the rumors regarding a smaller and cheaper version of the Z4, dubbed Z2, will become reality.
The new car will be a perfect rival to the entry-level sports car from Porsche and the new Volkswagen small roadster previewed by the BlueSport Concept. The new Bmw car was confirmed at the launch of the 2012 Bmw 6-Series Convertible, but the source declined to give any details.
So, we don’t know exactly if the car will follow the Bmw philosophy and come as a rear-wheel-drive or will be front-wheel-drive and preview the new generation of sports cars.
Regarding the powertrain, German magazine Autobild says that the car will be powered by a new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and will use the rear-drive platform of the next-generation 1-Series.
Still, Car magazine says that the new car will be manufactured under firm’s new i-Project sub-brand which will focus on front-wheel drive models. In March we will get our answer, so stay tuned! [via TheAge]
