Ferrari 599 GTB replacement to bow at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show

Article by Christian A., on October 13, 2011

We already know that the Ferrari 599 GTB replacement will get over 700 hp but what we didn’t know until today is that the new car will be revealed next year at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Lighter than before, the new Ferrari will be one of the firm’s fastest-ever models. According to our sources, the prototypes of the new car, dubbed F152, have already been spotted in Maranello and it is speculated that the use a new engine as well as a new transmission, developed from the FF four-seater.

The car will carry the same 6.3-liter V12 engine delivering 700 hp and will be with 50 hp more powerful than the Ferrari FF and with 80 than the current 599 GTB. Moreover, the car is expected to be rear-wheel drive and will use the Ferrari FF’s seven-speed twin-clutch transmission, with an F1-style electronic differential.

Regarding its performances, the car is expected to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.2 seconds and will have a top speed of 346 km/h or 215 mph. Talking about the design, the 599 GTB replacement is expected to borrow the design language seen on the 458 Italia and the FF, but we have no details for the moment.

As we know, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano’s first debut became the starting point of new sports car technology. But today, Ferrari is about to introduce another first. The latest 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE or the Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione is all about better handling and sporty performance on the road.

The Fiorano’s HGTE is complete with the menettino sport mode, newly calibrated magnetorheological shock absorbers, stiffer rear roll bars and springs in a whole new set-up. Ferrari also made some adjustments on the ride height to make it lower in order to improve Fiorano’s centre of gravity. This element contributes in controlling the car for a better performance. The HGTE package also consists of optimised tyre grips with special composite materials.

Meanwhile, Ferrari also developed the Fiorano HGTE’s electronics for improved response. They tweaked the settings of the F1’s gearbox shifts into high performance mode. Thus, the accelerator response is significantly faster than before.

The newly modified exhaust silencer now delivers the most exciting, adrenaline-charged performance sound without compromising the level of comfort when taking the car out on a cruise.

Without thinking twice, the new Ferrari HGTE package matches the F1 characteristics particularly on some of the interior and exterior sections. Likewise, the exterior is mostly made of carbon-fibre components found on most F1 race cars. It’s also fitted with the 20-inch split rim alloy wheels with exclusive matte silver and diamond-cut polish. The rear diffuser meanwhile, is made with matte black surface to further emphasise the chromed tailpipes next to it.

As for the cabin area, the new Ferrari Fiorano HGTE made use of carbon-fibre trims, black Alcantara fabric and full grain leather. The two-tone seats perfectly combined Alcantara inserts with leather while the back support is lined with carbon fibre for a sporty finish. Last but not the least, the intricately sewn embroidery of the Prancing Horse on the headrest now has the “Handling GTE” words on it.
