Maserati Alfieri Concept leaked ahead of 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Article by Christian A., on March 4, 2014

For the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Maserati announced that it will unveil a new concept car that will outline the upcoming cars of the next 100 years. Today, the new concept showed up on the Web ahead of its official debut! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Maserati Alfieri Concept.

The new silver coupe shows aggressive design lines and the front end is dominated by the big grille featuring the well-known Maserati logo. Meanwhile, the rear end features large fenders, LED taillights as well as a two-pipe exhaust system.

As expected, the new Maserati Alfieri Concept previews the next Granturismo and we expect a production version of the Alfieri to be RWD and powered by a V6 as well as a more potent V8 engine. Rivals for this car are the Porsche 911, Jaguar F-Type but also the brand new Corvette Stingray.

Maserati is unveiling the new Alfieri concept at a time when the brand is resetting its orientation in the fields of design and production. When Maserati unveiled the new Quattroporte and Ghibli, it was impressed that the brand was leaning towards sporty, premium four-door sedans. However, the Alfieri concept was created to remind people that Maserati boasts of a rich racing history as well as an exotic GT car tradition.

As designed, the Alfieri concept is indeed an embodiment of the brand’s true essence. It definitely asserts Maserati's racing DNA through its sleek, Italian-style 2+2 configuration, just like the brand’s previous GT models like 1957 3500 GT, the 1959 5000 GT and the 1969 Indy. In fact, it looks like a sportier GranTurismo, thanks to its proportions that could exemplify a future Gran Sport while subtly indicating Maserati’s stylistic intentions for the near term.

As Ramaciotti noted, Maserati doesn't change, since Maserati is always Maserati.

Just like all of the brand’s concept cars, Maserati conceived, designed and built the new Alfieri with an aim to turn it into reality. Ramaciotti called the Alfieri as a transition point between its 100 years of history and the near future. He added that while the Alfieri itself might not see production in the next two years, something similar would certainly arrive.

Maserati commenced the development of the Alfieri last summer, the carmaker asked its designers to start from scratch to create a concept fitting its centenary. There were number of proposals, but the result of the process is what is known now as the Alfieri.
