Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG Edition 1 will debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show

The Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG "Edition 1" will have its world debut on March 5 at the Geneva Motor Show. It has a sales release date of April 8 and it will be launched to the market in Germany this June. It is truly a standout when it comes to its technical performance as well as its looks. Like the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake, the fully appointed "Edition 1" model variant comes with an impressive series of details for its exterior and interior.

The motorsport link is emphasized on the A 45 AMG "Edition 1". The exterior paint finish in cirrus white matches up to the AMG sports stripes in matt graphite grey on the bonnet, roof and sides.

Meanwhile, there are red highlights on the radiator grille, exterior mirrors and rear aerofoil. These bright points are played up further when combined with the red painted brake callipers and the AMG multispoke light-alloy wheels painted in matt black with special AMG hub caps in central-locking look.

Meanwhile, the 8 x 19 light-alloy wheels are covered with 235/35 R 19 tires. The "Edition 1" gets the AMG Night package and the Aerodynamics package feature as standard, offering the ideal finishing touch to its motorsport-inspired theme. The interior of the A 45 AMG "Edition 1" is dominated by black and red. The AMG Performance seats use ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfiber with red contrasting stitching.

In addition, ARTICO man-made leather is used for the top section of the dashboard while the AMG Performance steering wheel uses nappa leather/DINAMICA microfibre. The other aesthetic enhancements include the E-SELECT lever with embossed AMG emblem and the "Edition 1" badge on the AMG DRIVE UNIT.

The website that’s dedicated to the A 45 AMG shows the unit in interactive mode. Those who visit the social wall on the site will get to see comments, films and pictures from fans of the AMG Twitter and Facebook pages. These come together with an option for users to write their sentiments too.

Two statistics show that the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG maintains the front position in its displacement group: the newly developed AMG 2.0-litre turbo engine is the most powerful series production four-cylinder turbo engine in the world. A full output of 265 kW (360 hp) and torque of up to 450 Nm are unparalleled compared to all other mass-produced turbocharged four-cylinder engines globally.

Its 133 kW (181 hp) power density is also completely unmatched. In this group, the new AMG high-performing turbo engine even outshines the mightiest super sports cars.

The high power and torque production and the integration with the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC AWD created tremendously vibrant performance: the A45 AMG can go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds, and its top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph) [electronically limited]. The specifically engineered AMG engine is also a model of effectiveness - the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is a front runner in this aspect for its segment, with fuel use of 6.9 litres per 100 km (40.9 mpg) for NEDC combined.

This goes with extremely low exhaust emissions: the A45 AMG currently meets the EU6 emissions standard that is not going to be in force until 2015, along with the particle count limit per kilometre that will become mandatory in 2017.

The foundation of these remarkable statistics is from the high-tech package that was produced by Mercedes-AMG. As a high-performing engine that is part of the BlueDIRECT family, the AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo features direct petrol spray-guided injection through piezo injectors placed centrally in the four combustion chambers.
