2011 Bmw X3 and Concept 6-Series Coupe announced for 2010 LA Auto Show

The upcoming L.A. Auto Show will mark the first time that BMW will display two of its latest projects in the US -- the 2011 X3 and the next-generation 6 Series concept. The premium small SUV segment was started by the outgoing X3 and it needed to be updated. However, the 2011 version is prepared for the spotlight.

On the other hand, the Concept 6 Coupe isn’t much different from the previous car as it is inspired by BMW's 70 years spent building sporty and elegant coupes. It’s quite easy to mistake the 2011 X3 for an X5 as they have a very close resemblance. However, the more perceptive onlooker will notice the extra curves in character lines.

It’s also apparent that more attention was given to the windows’ shape. It can’t be denied that the X3 remains to be distinctly BMW but when compared to the older model, it has more presence. BMW’s designers put as much attention on the interior as its exterior.

So that the vehicle would be brought up to current BMW standards, it was fitted with an electronic shifter, asymmetric center console and cleaner horizontal lines. The engines offered on this model include two 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder units.

The naturally aspirated N52 delivers 240hp and 230 pound-feet of torque due to both variable valve timing and lift. For more power, buyers may opt for the xDrive35i that will come with BMW's new single-turbo inline six-cylinder, the N55.

This has an output of 300hp and 300 pound-feet of torque, enabling the model to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. It’s likely that the Concept 6 Series will appeal to many potential buyers but for now, the lux coupe is not set for production. Despite the fact that the previous 6 was well received, it failed to age as gracefully as other BMW designs.

This concept has classic lines and exudes elegance, making it less polarizing. The car’s long hood and low stance hints at its sporting inspirations, but the elegantly restyled interior indicates how good it will be for touring. This concept was unveiled at the recently held Paris Auto Show.
